webfact
Navy chief praises Thai Navy SEALs in special citation By Thai PBS The commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Naris Prathumsuwan, has praised the bravery and dedication of the Thai Navy SEALs and naval medical staff for their performance in the rescue operation to help the 12 Wild Boars footballers and their coach out of the Tham Luang cave and in the search and rescue of the victims from the sunken Phoenix boat in the rough sea off Phuket earlier this month. He also singled out Rear Admiral Arpakorn Yookongkaew, commander of the Thai Navy SEAL, and Special Captain Anan Surawan, commander of the First Special Warfare Corps of the Naval Special Warfare Command for special praises. Members of both units played a crucial role in the Tham Luang rescue mission. In a citation formally issued on July 13 and posted on the Thai Navy SEAL webpage yesterday. It said that altogether 127 SEAL members and 32-member medical team took part in the hazardous rescue operation to extract the 13 survivors out of the flooded cave. Petty officer Samarn Kunan who died during the rescue operation was praised for his bravery and sacrifice. His rank was posthumously promoted to that of lieutenant commander. ezzra
I thought they were doing the job to which they trained for and specialised in, the same as the armed forces, the police, the fire brigade and so on, why don't they give citations to everyone in Thailand and let's move on....

They were not trained for diving in caves, it appears they went over and beyond the call of their duty. Well done for risking their lives and I and many more are sad for the loss of one of the Navy Seals.

Chris Lawrence
Good work Thai Navy Seals. Your the best. Sad about one of their own giving the extreme sacrifice in the pursuit of his work, RIP.
Trouble
Why the negativity? If a firefighter climbs up a ladder in a raging fire and saves your ass, you going to thank him or just tell him it's what he was trained for and it's his job. These guys went above and beyond in my opinion in a very dangerous situation. In fact, Individual or unit citations for such deeds are not unheard of in militaries of the US or UK. I would bet there is a even a chance the US team that went to help out will also receive some kind of acknowledgement for their participation from the US military. Yes they ( U.S. ) were in control of logistics ( Logistics is generally the detailed organization and implementation of a complex operation) One group coming out of Japan...were others as well...Great Joint effort by all, and Thai Navy seals who said lets go for it when brit divers thought was not feasible... overherebc
I didn't know so many TV posters were actually there and privvy to all the decisions made by the different nationalties at the time and during the whole rescue. I learn something new every day on here. Anyway the little I know is that they ALL played a part and risked a lot to get the kids out and safe.
