Twin boys both got the flu and are almost better after a week - a bit of a runny nose still. Got some medication from the doctor and he's okay with them to fly and they are generally chirpy

Main question - at what point are they better off fighting the next flu or cold?

- In a few weeks from now ?

- Or now ?

I'm not a doctor, and I'm making an assumption that their immune system would be more active just after a cold ? ( personally I can never remember getting the flu after having flu)

I don't really understand the question as it seems not to fit the title.

Are you assuming that if they travel they will get the flu again?

People do not usually get a cold or flu immediately after having had one.

In the interests of other passengers, best nto to fly until the runny noses have cleared up, though - they may still be infectious to others.

For what it's worth, as Sheryl advises, best wait till their noses stop running and depending in what country your in, i.e. here or there and whether you trust the hospital systems here, the reason I say that is I am just getting over an flu which lasted a week, nothing to be concerned about, but then it turned ugly, two lots of different antibiotics, chest X-ray, all clear as advised by doctor at the hospital, 15 minutes on oxygen, then a lung test (spirometre) the following day, the reading I was told was fine, however coughing a lot and bringing up a lot of green and the yellow phlegm (very uncomfortable and out of control coughing) and told by the other hospital doctor after the lung test that it is fine after the flu to cough and bring up phlegm for at least 2-3 months. Both doctors at hospital of the same opinion, but my local doctor is the one who referred me to the hospital after the 2nd antibiotics didn't work, so she wanted to probe further.

The following day I went to a private hospital, saw a doctor and was referred on the spot to a chest specialist who I saw in 10 minutes, ordered a fresh chest xray, clear, then ordered a sinus x-ray, that was clear as well, antibiotics and inhaler with steroids given, with a follow up in 2 weeks, started breathing pretty quick again and feeling much better within an hour, and been back to see the specialist (twice now), with another 2 week course of antibiotics prescribed yesterday and a repeat inhaler, am 95% at the moment, and will do a lung test in a month, from her point of view I still have a little inflammation in the windpipe, she is not 100% what I have or had, and will do a lung test in a month, but will say this much, my annual flu shot for me will not be missed again, and when and if I get the slightest cold or flu here, I will be off to the private.

Take care of those young ones because the bacteria here in the tropical climate is pretty bad and just experienced, and if your in Australia, watch out for that flu as it is of real real concern as some people have had sepsis, not wishes to raise alarm bells.

Safe travels.

If their nose is runny and there is swelling in nasal passages and the  Eustachian tubes this can cause a problem for air pressure equalization  ... and can be very painful on take off and landing.. https://www.medicinenet.com/eustachian_tube_problems/article.htm

I once flew Phuket to UK knowing I had a bad cold and was gonna run the risk of making things worse (but had to get back to UK at that time) Flight was not too bad, then day after I landed boy did I get ill, shivers - hot/cold sweats by third day I felt like I was on the verge of expiring I got myself down to Hospital Casualty Dept after tests they said I had a high fever and an ear infection, course of antibiotics. I was laid up a week then another week getting back to normal - Never again will I risk flying if full of a cold
