30 Days Extension Denied at Immigration Office Bangkok

Recommended Posts

I must have read every possible post before I went yesterday for the extension of my VISA. Here is what happened. I arrived first in Thailand on a 60 Days Tourist Visa from India on the 5th June 2018. My VISA was until 3rd August 2018. I went yday (2nd Aug) to the Immigration Office. I was told that I can get only 7 Days extension for 1900 THB. When I asked the officer why ? She replied for countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh etc its 7 Days and advised me to do leave the country and come back. What can I do ? What are the best option for me ? Has anyone been in this situation ?

1. I am thinking now which border will be the easiest

2. Is Vientiane a better choice ?

They were correct that you cannot get the 30 day extension.

Since you are from India your only option is to fly out and back or do a border crossing to get a15 day visa on arrival by applying for it and paying the 2000 baht fee for it. You will need to show a ticket out of the country within 15 days and be prepared to show the equivalent of 20k baht.

You cannot apply for a visa at any nearby embassy or consulates since India is on the list of countries that can only apply for visas in their home country. See: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/RestrictedCountries2013.pdf and http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/contents/images/text_editor/files/listed country 2018_2.pdf

Hi Ubonjoe, thank you so much for the information. The notification you posted talks about applying for 60 Days Tourist Visa from Home Country, which is what the case with me was. I came with TR 60 Days from New Delhi. Please read about the extension part- it mentions " Extension of stay can be requested from the Immigration Office in your area of Residence

Note:

(a) Area of Residence and NOT Country of Residence
(b) In the home country its called "Thai Embassy/ Consular Services" and NOT "Immigration Office"

(c) The reference would only point out to Immigration Bureau in Bangkok ( area where I am residing currently)

(d) Also note the clear use of word " country of permanent residence" in the first line and " area of residence"  in the last sentence

Rest of the story: I traveled all the way to Vientiane, Laos. Incurred a expense of 7000 THB and then finally returned with a 15 Days Visa Extension.

You need to read this on the immigration website for the 30 day extension of a tourist visa entry.. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_4

"( In case of the following nationalities ,extension of stay permit will not be longer than 7 days ; Sri Lanka ,India,Pakistan,Bangladesh,Iran,Nepal,Togo,Nigeria,Uganda )"

You got a 15 day visa on arrival when you entered the country not an extension.

The rules regarding the 30-day extension of stay for tourists who arrive with a tourist are in paragraph 2.4 of the Police Order 327/2557 (2014):

Quote

The alien:
(1) Must have been granted a tourist visa (TOURIST) or exempted from applying
for a visa. Each permission shall be granted for no more than 30 days as announced by
the Ministry of Interior.
(2) Must not be of a nationality or type prescribed by the committee monitoring
official proceedings of officers of the Immigration Bureau.

Unfortunately, you do not meet the second criterion. The nationalities affected by it are not listed in the aforementioned police order, only in an internal service communication of the Immigration Bureau at the URL indicated by Ubonjoe.

Thank you so much for for digging deeper into this issue for me. I really appreciate. Ubonjoe is there any way you could say if this applies to all Immigration Offices in Thailand. Would it be worth the while to try from Surat Thani/Koh Samui Immigration Office ?

I stand corrected, this was a new VISA and NOT an Extension
