libya 115
SOURCE: Pattaya People February 5th 2007 Indian Woman Apprehended for Theft On the 3rd of February at 9.30pm, Pattaya Police received a call from Miss Wannapa Wongpet that an Indian woman had robbed from her shop in a famous shopping mall. Because there were many customers in the shop Miss Wannapa could not pay attention to the Indian woman and the security guard told her that the Indian woman had stolen a pair of sunglasses. She quickly followed and caught the woman at the entrance of the building. Once the Indian woman was apprehended, she resisted being searched. However, the unpaid sunglasses were found to be in the Indian lady’s possession, and suddenly she went very pale and her hands started shaking. The lady was placed under arrest and taken to Pattaya Police Station and is now awaiting a court date.

samtam
Obviously not much happens in Pattaya, or is the excercise in reporting an incident only significant because the perp is Indian; the tone of the article would seem to suggest that. Chang_paarp
Funny it names the complainant, but not the "famous mall", the shop and in this instance not the Indian woman. Would the paper construe naming the mall as advertising? Or is the mall an advertiser and does not want this type publicity? I would have thought it would have been positive publicity, alert guards doing their job!

pumpuiman
I don't understand why the security guard allowed her to leave the store. Did he need permission from the owner to confront this woman? And why specify her nationality?
britmaveric
And why specify her nationality? Well they always identify the nationality - part of their reporting style.
Pattaya_Fox
I don't understand why the security guard allowed her to leave the store. Did he need permission from the owner to confront this woman. Caught at the entrance to the store shows that the woman was about to leave or had left the building, therefore the intent was to steal and not merely leave the shop with the intention of returning the item. Thai news reports invariably identify the nationality of the person. i.e. American. English. French, Indian ets.
