A file photo of junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha.

BANGKOK — Photographers covering junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha were instructed to follow strict rules at a Friday event and “show their respect” to the general before and after taking his photo.

Police distributed the rules to photographers at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani, where Gen. Prayuth was set to give a speech about Thai society. They were also told to stay at least 5 meters from the junta leader at all times and refrain from jostling with each other for position.

Why should photographers show respect to a man who has no respect for law and order?

  • If Thailand didn't already have a king, Prayuth would appoint himself emperor.

  • He is concerned that any closer and they will see he has no clothes.

PM demands ‘gestures of respect’ from media

By The Nation

The media must "show gestures of respect" to the junta leader while taking his photo, according to the police’s Special Branch.

Photographers must be at least five metres from the prime minister when taking photos and must not take his picture when he is walking on stairs or eating, the conditions say.

The rules were announced on Friday when Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the opening ceremony of the Thailand Social Expo 2018 at the Impact Exhibition Centre in Muang Thong Thani.

Besides strict security checks, the media were required to register and get a permit tag. Only registered photographers with certified cameras could take photos of the junta leaders, according to the guidelines.

Those failing to comply would lose their passes and be banned from future events.

The restrictions came two days after Prayut said he would not talk to the press about politics unless necessary.

This is not the first time the junta strongman has given the media the silent treatment. Last year, Prayut also resorted to this method at least once following criticism about the coup-maker's attempts to cling on to power.

Sensitive to media reports, the junta has also rearranged weekly press briefings after the Cabinet meeting. When the reporters previously had been able to ask questions freely, they are now required to submit the questions in advance and only four questions are asked.

Maybe the good PM should act and speak respectful. This will ensure respectful photogs.

I agree with him wholeheartedly..

Anything less than 5 metres is an aesthetic nightmare.

I commend him for his good taste.

“show their respect” to the general ..."

He'll be respected as though he were the head of a powerful nation...Like the president of the U.S.A.

Telephoto lenses, are they allowed, then the photogs (is that a made up word)can be even further away.

never heard before, you learn something new on TV everyday.......

Narcissism personified.

And should they fail to show him respect , he can always punch them in the mouth

This whole charade is just getting more and more ridiculous.

But we've got to put up with it all - as the Thais are doing so. Nothing we can do.

Respect a thief!

Taking any kind of photo is already too much respect.

He cannot touch Trump in that department. No politician likes to be made to look bad. Few of them throw such tantrums in public.

What's a photog is that like a warthog or groundhog? and why is he wearing a Roger You cap whilst saying no watch photos?

Which reportedly he frequently threatens to do, the oh so respectful person that he is.

Photographer being quizzed by the the PM: , The way your photos don't flatter me, are you showing your contempt?

Photographer: No, I'm trying to conceal it.

Best if the newshounds ignored him completely, failed to turn up for events, refused to take his picture and showed absolutely no interest. He would be livid.

Wouldn't it be great if they did just that...ignore him [emoji106]

Maybe a rebel photographer's idea of respect:

Photographer to PM: How many fingers am I holding up sir?

PM: Two.

Photographer: Can you see how far they are apart?

PM: Grrrr - fancy taking a photo of the entrance as you're whisked into a military establishment? That's TWO weeks attitude adjustment for you my lad. (Punches him in the face for good measure, as he previously promised.)

Trump got voted onto his pedestal.

If this arrogant clown, however, could manage to win a ballot fair and square, he would be a lot worse.

The difference between Trump and Prayut is that one wants to be the wealthiest/ most powerful man in the world, whereas the other wants to be treated as if he were a barefooted deity.

No photos under 5 meters distance and no photos of wristwatches and Jewellery.

Hey newsmen!  you now have a choice of prima donnas...

Van Damme is in town

Still acting like this is a democracy. Be real. Thailand needs democracy much less than it needs competent government. A technocrat could easily be a hero in this country.
