Trump says his son sought information on Clinton from Russians in 2016

Good summary of the DJTJ-Russian meeting and subsequent, not so subtle, cover-up

The Day Trump Told Us There Was Attempted Collusion with Russia

August 5, 1974, was the day the Nixon Presidency ended. On that day, Nixon heeded a Supreme Court ruling and released the so-called smoking-gun tape, a recording of a meeting, held two years earlier, with his chief of staff, H. R. Haldeman. Many of Nixon’s most damaging statements came in the form of short, monosyllabic answers and near-grunts—“um huh,” the official transcript reads, at one point—as he responds to Haldeman’s idea of asking the C.I.A. to tell the F.B.I. to “stay the hell out of” the Watergate investigation. The coverup is clearly of Haldeman’s design. Nixon’s words are simple: “All right. Fine.” Then, “Right, fine.”

Nixon’s strongest statement to Haldeman is, surprisingly, a word of caution. “Don’t lie to them to the extent to say there is no involvement, but just say this is sort of a comedy of errors, bizarre, without getting into it,” he says. “Say that we wish, for the country, don’t go any further into this case, period!” When Nixon released the tape, he acknowledged that it would lead to his impeachment. Three days later, he resigned the Presidency.

On August 5, 2018, precisely forty-four years after the collapse of the Nixon Presidency, another President, Donald Trump, made his own public admission. In one of a series of early-morning tweets, Trump addressed a meeting that his son Donald, Jr., held with a Russian lawyer affiliated with the Russian government. “This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere,” he wrote. “I did not know about it!”

Trump Tower meeting with Russians 'treasonous', Bannon says in explosive book

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon has described the Trump Tower meeting between the president’s son and a group of Russians during the 2016 election campaign as “treasonous” and “unpatriotic”, according to an explosive new book seen by the Guardian.

Bannon, speaking to author Michael Wolff, warned that the investigation into alleged collusion with the Kremlin will focus on money laundering and predicted: “They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.”

Let me get this straight.  If someone on a campaign staff meets with someone to dig up dirt on a political opponent and some consider it collusion

(If you are ever in legal jeopardy maybe hire a real lawyer and not one who plays oneon Fox News?)

Yes. Well, a conspiracy to defraud the United States, if the "someone" is a "foreigner". Hence Roger Stone is cooked. Specific to campaign contributions...

18 U.S. Code § 371 - Conspiracy to commit offense or to defraud United States

If two or more persons conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

If, however, the offense, the commission of which is the object of the conspiracy, is a misdemeanor only, the punishment for such conspiracy shall not exceed the maximum punishment provided for such misdemeanor.

52 U.S. Code § 30121 - Contributions and donations by foreign nationals

(a) Prohibition It shall be unlawful for—
(1) a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make—
(A) a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election;
(B) a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party; or
(C) an expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication (within the meaning of section 30104(f)(3) of this title); or
(2) a person to solicit, accept, or receive a contribution or donation described in subparagraph (A) or (B) of paragraph (1) from a foreign national.
(b) “Foreign national” defined As used in this section, the term “foreign national” means—
(1) a foreign principal, as such term is defined by section 611(b) of title 22, except that the term “foreign national” shall not include any individual who is a citizen of the United States; or
(2) an individual who is not a citizen of the United States or a national of the United States (as defined in section 1101(a)(22) of title ? and who is not lawfully admitted for permanent residence, as defined by section 1101(a)(20) of title 8.

"You can collude all you want with a foreign government in an election. There's no such statute" (that makes collusion a crime).
— Gregg Jarrett on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 in an interview on Fox News

Fox News host wrong that no law forbids Russia-Trump collusion

Fox News host Gregg Jarrett has a distinctive take on the investigation into possible links between Russia and the Trump campaign. Jarrett, a former defense attorney, said that even if the two worked together, it wasn’t illegal.

"Collusion is not a crime, only an antitrust law," he said on May 30. "You can collude all you want with a foreign government in an election. There's no such statute."

"As special counsel, Mueller can engage in all manner of spectacular jurisprudential gymnastics," Jarrett wrote. "However, it will not change the fact that colluding with Russia is not, under America’s criminal codes, a crime."

I predict that Mueller will indict some people close to Trump and maybe Trump himself, but it will have little effect on his popularity or lack thereof.  The state of the economy will have a much bigger impact on Trump's 2020 election chances.

Your prediction is totally silly regarding "trump" itself. It is well established already that Mueller does not believe in indicting sitting presidents. What Mueller will do if he is permitted to continue with his vital investigation until conclusion is present a REPORT to the Assistant Attorney General. Then it's a matter for the house of representatives to act on those conclusions, or not. Two key factors will determine that -- how serious are the charges against "trump" in the report AND also who is in the house. With the current house, the findings could be extremely serious and extremely criminal, and those complicit republican Quislings wouldn't do anything. But that MAY change in November. Stay tuned.

Let me get this straight.  If someone on a campaign staff meets with someone to dig up dirt on a political opponent and some consider it collusion,  or whatever, then there should be a lot of people in trouble. It just hasn't worked that way over the years as this is what campaigns do. It really doesn't bother me in the least as that's just politics like it or not.  Now if people are upset that it was because it was a meeting some Russian lawyer and they also consider that treason, then the same people should be just as upset that the Hillary campaign and DNC actually paid someone for opposition research to dig up dirt on Trump from information obtained through Russian sources in the Steele dossier. I guess it is okay if you hire it to be done through a third party.  It really is time to move on. Collusion as used in this matter is not a crime anyway. The Dems should be more incensed by the fact that the DNC colluded with Hillary to keep Bernie at bay.  It's all so hypocritical that it's laughable.

Are you a Republican? Do you need someone other than Trump to blame for Trumps own actions? Then lets play Trump Deflection!!

Just simply choose from the following list to use as a scapegoat for this mans action:-

Hillary - Obama - Democrats - CNN - Fake News - Immigrants - Minorities -  Muslims - Science - Mueller - Facts

This simple game of deflection is fun for all the family and will absolutely guarantee that the Cheeto in Chief will never be held responsible for anything that comes out of his mouth or the actions of any of his family or associates.

(Warning: this game may add to your already high levels of cognitive dissonance and may ruin your country for generations to come)

Yes, they're our good friends, right? What's a little election interference among friends  -it's really nothing!

"They didn't hide it it was at the Tower."

They reluctantly had to admit the meeting had taken place when they were found out. They did however lie about what the meeting was about and that's including the Liar-In-Chief traitor in the WH.

Anyway, he'll throw his own spawn under the bus soon enough.

Well, the bus is coming and the Swamp King is preparing his son for the throw:

But the old man has told sonny boy that he is the most powerful man in the world and will pardon him.

"Yes daddy, I'll take the hit for you".

Amazing how many people clung to Trump and now their life is turning to shit. Talk about "draining the swamp".

I think he's mighty relieved to have Junior in his camp.

Throughout his life, Trump has surrounded himself with fall guys.

In the dying embers of his reign, with the crowd under his window baying "Dump Trump!", big Daddy will turn to Junior and say "Son, I don't think that they like you very much, you'd better leave.".
