Good and about time, all zoos, animal farms and safari parks in Thailand should be closed down.

Most zoos worldwide have had incidents and accusations of not treating their animals correctly but Thai zoos money making tourist attractions bring this to a new level and they bring no educational value to their visitors.

The only exemption should animal farms that are not open to the public, for example a snake farm for milking snakes to produce antivenom.

It's quite shocking to see how badly wild and often endangered animals are treated in captivity in a country were you could be sent down for kicking a soi dog.

Take look at UK zoos that are now really study centres for means on conversation and trying to breed endangered species in an attempt to re-stock nature. Yes people come to gawk but the money for admission is used to finance the zoo.

Some other countries it's used to ensure the lifestyle of a few.

Why do you all throw private zoos (entertainment) and public zoos in one pot?

Well apart from the mistake I made writing conversation instead of conservation, ?private zoos in UK have to adhere to well enforced laws and are actively involved with the larger zoos in breeding programmes, to ensure a good introduction of genes etc so they don't end up with banjo playing members of the species.

Hope you don't mean Michael Jackson. As long as they treat the animals well, up to them as your Thai girlfriend would say. Better than running in front of an American wildlife trophy hunter.

The "Rest of the Story" is the property is too valuable for animals, Bangkok needs another Condominium complex, or another Mega-Mall.  Wanna bet it doesn't turn into a

Green Space for Bangkokonians to enjoy???

Isn't that the case in any mega city around the world?

I think it should stay in BKK somewhere close to the bts or subway...

How can the BKK kids visit it so far away? Or the tourists?

It would be great if Thailand builds the best zoo of the world, i know it will never happen but it would be great. There's enough money in the country to do it.

Did you read that the King donated 9 plots of land for public use last year? One was selected for the zoo.

What do you think would have happened to choose another location? Guess!

No i didn't read that.

He has plenty land to give, is there not a better plot for the zoo? I would like it if he ordered the best zoo of the world on that plot, so the rest of the world will speak about it...

Pathum thani always has flooding isn't it? Not a good place for a zoo.

Seems to be Trump thinking!

Could you imagine, that there might be another reason? The zoo was founded 75 years ago and it might not be up to the standard of modern zoos anymore. Expansion is not possible, if you have visited it. The only way would have been to reduce the number of animals drastically.

Not everybody can afford a trip to Tansania or South Africa (Serengeti, Kruger NP), Borneo or China (pandas).

Yes, that's probably why they're on display. Sad but true.

You move on dangerous ground. Don't criticise the King!

I have lived in and visited Bangkok for almost fifty years - my first trip to the Zoo was in 1969 on R&R from Vietnam when I was 19, then about twenty times thru the years after - until they instituted the double charge for foreigners.  Ain't been back since...........you do have good points, but I still bet a shopping mall pops up in the next ten years........:wai:

You might win that bet. My Thai friends neither know what will happen with the plot.

When i visited BKK zoo i was so amazed that many cars were allowed to drive in there.

The new zoo will get a highway inside i reckon...I've never seen cars driving in a zoo anywhere on the world, it's a real Thai only.

Nice when you believe that. But also read Wikipedia "Zoo" "History"

You didn't read my post, did you? In case you didn't and are far to busy trolling this forum; here it is again in simplified language: I agree with you.

There is car and coach parking inside the zoo but not driving around like in a safari park. Your post is slightly misleading.

It's not misleading, it's what i saw when i walked in the zoo 20 years ago.

Several Benz'es driving around with families who only came out to see the animals they wanted to see. After that they drove to the next cage....

Of course I did otherwise I would not reply.

You said that because peoples can not afford to see giraffes in Africa they are "probably" on display in something called zoo.

That is what I dispute after reading about history of zoos.

I did not experience that quite a few years ago on different occasions. Times might have changed.

Well 20-25 years ago it was normal for hi-so's drive in the zoo over the paths...

I was a backpacker that time and walked to the zoo from kao san. So the backpackers will miss that as well soon.

Like Changi airport is worldfamous because it's the best airport Bangkok needs a Superzoo ....Something like the Sunway Pyramid in Kuala Lumpur but bigger and better. It's a zoo, waterpark, attractionpark, shopping mall, hotel and more...very nice...will go back there soon.

Correct, Singapore zoo is perfect same as night safari. But could many Thais with family afford it?
