The labour attache to the Thai embassy in Tel Aviv was told on Friday by the labour minister to facilitate the transport of bodies of two Thai workers from Israel.
 

Labour Minister Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew spoke to Saknat Sonthisakyothin, the labour attache, and Apichart Wongkalasin, Nakhon Phanom chief labour employment officer, and the families of the two workers.

 

Adul told the labour attache and the Nahon Labour Employment Office to make sure that families of the two workers would receive all due benefits and remaining wages of the two workers.

 

Natthachai Pongsao, 32, from Nakhon Phanom's Tha Uthane district, reportedly died in his sleep at a farm in Israel on August 3.

Then on August 5, Pornchai Promchan, 43, from Nakhon Phanom's Muang district, was also found dead in his bed in an Israeli livestock farm.

 

Apichart said Natthachai's family would receive the unpaid salary for Bt95,000 as well as Bt40,000 from a fund to assist Thais working abroad. The family would also be eligible for Bt10,176 from the Social Security Fund as he used to subscribe to the fund before leaving to work in Israel.

 

Apichart said the family of Pornchai would get Bt190,000 in unpaid wages from the employer and Bt40,000 from the expat fund.

Both bodies would be sent back home with compensation from their life insurance and both families would receive Bt15,000 from their village funds, Apichart added.

No real info. Not being a TVF conspirator but there’s not much mentioned on any post mort. Seems strange although reasonable that 2 guys their age just died in their sleep. Were they using certain chemicals at their places of work for example or could it be me more sinister. Never know, hopefully get a follow up

This is both sad and worrying. Let's hope that Israel is able to shed some honest light as to what has happened and doesn't fall into the same pattern as other Middle East slave houses, particularly Qatar.

Thanom showed me their claustrophobic sleeping quarters, where three workers share a tiny room next to a squalid kitchen.

Above us a ceiling punctured by large holes and a roof which was falling apart. The cattle was housed just yards away, the stench of their excrement hanging in the air.

Paid just 130 shekels ($30; £20) a day, Thanom earns 30% less than Israel's minimum wage, and sometimes works longer than the legal eight-hour day.

 

What a sad state of affairs that exists in this world. Mostly we see and hear 'experts' theorising about the horrendous states that exists in the developing world. What they are silent is about the worst things that are happening in their backyards. Who would ever admit to this?
