A Kuwaiti family in Thailand have good reason to thank the legendary honesty of the Thais after a taxi driver returned 120,000 baht in foreign currency yesterday.

Mr Meshari HM Al Fadhli, 42, thought he has seen the last of his green bag containing the cash for his brother's treatment at Bangkok Hospital.

But he had not bargained for the honesty of 50 year old driver Pornthip Buthasit.

The driver of Yellow and Green cab 1 มก (mor gor) 6494 (Bangkok plates) found the bag containing $2,000, 520 Kuwaiti dinar, a watch, phone and three passports and wondered which of his passengers on Friday it belonged to.

Contact with FM 91 radio station helped him trace the rightful owner.

An unspecified sum was paid in reward for Pornthip's honesty, said INN in their report.

First we had the “ ice bucket “ challenge and then the “ Tide Pod “ challenge and now it seems that the latest FB challenge is “ leave the max amount of money you are prepared to lose in a Thai taxi “ challenge.

Think I’ll give it a miss !!
The ice bucket was about as adventurous as I go !!

It made me forget all about the flooding, Prawit spending his birthday without a visit from his best friend.

Mission accomplished!

More unbelievable will be a story, backed up by a customer, that a Pattaya taxi driver used the meter.

Now that would be a PR coup. Probably on hold until we have a much bigger political catastrophe appear.

Where's Mok199 when you need him .. I ain't stealing his glory on this one ..

“Legendary honesty of the Thais”..........:)

Unbelievable that someone would carry those valuables in a separate bag (that could be easily snatched or otherwise separated from one's person)!

Not only should tourists have travel insurance, they should bring a nanny to make the taxi drivers' life easier. What with all that time spent returning valuables, and hardly any worthwile rewards. Cannot make a living like that.

speechless in Thailand..
