Taxi driver fined for watching erotic video, improper dress while driving passenger

A taxi driver was fined Bt2,000 on Tuesday for watching a video disc and dressing improperly while transporting a passenger.

 

Wirat Promthai reported himself to the Land Transport Department at 10am after a female passenger filed a complaint with the department against him.

 

The passenger alleged that Wirat had watched a pornographic movie and had also removed his shirt in a suspicious gesture.

 

After Wirat reported to the department, inspection division head Sukree Jaruphum, took him to check whether he had porn video discs in his car.

 

The driver told Sukree had not watched pornography but rather a legal erotic movie, Mae Bia, which had been screened in theatres.

 

 

Wirat said he was about to finish driving for the day and had taken off his blue shirt and left it on the back seat while he watched the movie. The movie was not pornography, he insisted, explaining that he had bought it just two days prior to the event.

 

Wirat said that when the female passenger waved him to stop, he hesitated to pick her up but feared a complaint if he rejected a passenger.

 

He said he did not intend to do anything illegal as he loves driving taxi and he had been in the job for 15 years.

 

Sukree said the taxi driver came to meet the officials as summoned and has a clean record. The driver was fined Bt1,000 for dressing improperly and another Bt1,000 for causing a nuisance to a passenger.

Let’s hope he wasn’t watching an erotic  movie. Let’s hope he was just watching a normal movie while driving his car.

Taxi drivers are obliged under law to dress respectably. This law is construed by police as wearing a shirt with a collar. Thus, it is suspicious that a taxi driver would commit an illegal act whilst transporting a passenger, particularly a female one.

The English translation contains an ambiguity.

 

I suspect you have placed a construction on the sentence that the adverbial phrase "in a suspicious gesture" qualifies the verb "removed". So, you may have a mental image of the taxi driver taking off the shirt in the manner of a burlesque dancer. Naturally you find this ridiculous.

 

However, I suspect the original Thai version had "in a suspicious gesture" as a clause with the subject "removing his shirt". That is to say the removal of the shirt in any manner whatsoever was in itself a suspicious gesture.

 

I hope this clarifies the matter.

Was he also fined for steering a motor vehicle transporting passengers while watching a movie as he weaved through traffic? Or did that much more severe law infringement go unnoticed?

Strange. Police didn't want to get involved when fire hoses got stolen and we knew who took them. 

But whenever sex is involved,  bang, they're there. 

But Wirat was determined to keep his Tee-shirt on beneath taxi shirt ..

A Novel way of proving it wasn't porn....Does porn change itself on a disk after the first two days  from purchase date?

Flirting is ok.  No issue. Once while in Jomtien.around Christmas time,  immigration had a helper from outside.  A very sexy lady dressed in a red and white skimpy Santa outfit. 

We chatted briefly as I thought wow, this is a bit odd to have in a professional office environment.but if it's ok with them it's is ok with me.

Nothing Col I hardly wear a shirt anytime when I am at home, Thai culture mate. I did pick up one small problem when I don't wear my shirt lots of women in the village take notice and make a habit of saying hi to me.  Who can blame them really? I am an incredible species of a man  ?
