150 Volunteers Dredge Drains to Prevent Flooding

CityNews – To prevent further flash floods as well as in anticipation of more flooding to come, much work is being done to our city drains.

 

150 people gathered today in support of the government call out for help to dredge the city’s drains.

There is hardly a single morning without seeing someone sweeping the road in front of a shop, and then getting rid of the rubbish by dumping it in the road side sewer grate.
Hope these people joined the dredging event ...

It is a SHAME that volunteers have to do this because the local and other GOVERNMENTS do not want to use their money because they spent it on their own families new cars and luxury livings.Ah Yes Graft at its greatest.

Good on them. As said in the previous commenters post, this is the responsibility of authorities. The masses still have some responsibility in keeping the drains clear by not flushing anything but poo and pee down the loo, dumping in water ways, pouring used cooking oil in the drain, etc etc.

The above quote is very correct, and I for one have also witnessed this type of action by the street cleaners, although they are not the only guilty ones; having said this, it is very good to see that some sensible people have taken it upon themselves to do something about the visible problems, one can only hope the local administrations take notice and follow the peoples lead.

As per usual in LOS, Thais being reactive rather than proactive. The drains should be dredged/cleaned prior to the rainy season, not during... TOT...

 

Maintenance of anything in Thailand is sadly lacking. Thais just wait until something is broken and fix it....
