I went to Easy Tour in Siem Reap with a printed out copy of my last monthly bank statement showing a balance of at least $1000USD.

The next day I get a call from Easy Tour that the Thailand Embassy in Phnom Penh needs a certified copy of the bank statement that has been signed and stamped.

When the agent viewed my Chase bank statement the day I brought it in, nothing was said about it needing a stamp and signature from the bank.

I offered to get an ATM receipt at any one of the local branches here in Siem Reap to corroborate the bank statement but the agent said the Embassy insisted on a bank statement that’s been stamped and signed by the local bank branch in the U.S.

I called the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh and the lady on the phone told me that the stamp and signature on bank statement was only for banks in Cambodia and not required for banks in the United States.

My bank is J.P. Morgan Chase and I’m unsure if they provide such a service to certify or notarize a bank statement.

I’ve used up my two visa exempts in my passport for the year, stayed 3-5 days the first time and 2 weeks the second time and have no prior SETV’s in my passport.

The 2 entry rule is only for land border crossings. There is no limit by air.

Perhaps you should go to the embassy in person to apply for your tourist visa.

I don’t like to fly. I took a boat from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and do the rest by train, automobile or bus.

I do not want to travel 6+ hours to Phnom Penh solely to do the tourist visa but will do so as a last resort if I can’t find an agency in Siem Reap to do that.

Nothing I’ve read suggests that a bank statement needs to be stamped and signed for an SETV except for one instance in a Thai Visa thread about extension of stay based on marriage along with a letter from the bank confirming the account.

Perhaps tell the agent to try for the visa and you will not blame them if is unsuccessful or tell them to call the embassy.

I got my local Chase bank branch to give me an account balance summary and bank statement that is stamped and signed by a bank employee.

The lady at Easy Tour complained that the bank statement was not in color and their printer only does black and white so that I would have to have it printed elsewhere and return  it to them in color.

The other employees were getting a good laugh about that.

I went to Sopheak Na Travel & Tour to enquire about price and requirements.

Sopheak said a bank statement is unacceptable and that I need a bank book.

Looks like I will have to make that trip to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh after all.
