Bangkok police on Friday afternoon held a meeting between representatives of Pathumwan and Uthenthawai colleges, whose students on Thursday fought on the skywalk near the National Stadium BTS station.

Education Ministry officials attended to find solutions to the issue of student brawls.

The meeting at Pathumwan Police Station was brokered by the deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Maj Gen Panurat Lakboon.

Pathumwan Institute of Technology announced a seven-day closure on Friday and a police truck was parked at its entrance to prevent further violence.

Royal Thai Police deputy spokesman Col Krissana Patanacharoen said the latest incident took place at 6.45pm on Thursday when nine students - six Pathumwan students and three students from Uthenthawai - were apprehended along with two knives (one from each side) by 20 police officers.

They were fined Bt1,000 for carrying weapons and Bt5,000 for brawling in public.

Police patrol to prevent fights between the adjacent institutions near Siam Square.

How about arrest and detain the bloody lot of them for affray and endangering the public? Blimey, this touchy-feely  BS they roll-out is ridiculous in these cases for the average scooter-boy...needs a sort sharp shock to get his arse in line imo.

Can anybody explain how a parked police vehicle can stop violence from breaking out?

That is news, in the past the Ed. ministry totally and completely ignored these incidents.

But did they take any active part in discussions at this scene?

They all  need a good haircut and a damn good thrashing and maybe a couple of years of national service.

It never did the kray twins any harm did it?

It's the image that counts, not action. Everyone knows that.

Jack the hat and George Cornell may beg to differ for starters?

If it continues they'l roll out cardboard cut-outs of police at every junction...

that'll stop it.

I suggest to turn them all into 'inactive' students for life. This country needs more motorbike taxi jockeys anyway.

Advice: How would it be to try to actually educate the students?

EDUCATE the students? What in the hell kind of propaganda is that? Raise the Tuition so only rich pansies can afford to attend, all others, brawl in the streets, no knives or sticks.
