BANGKOK, 17th August 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has convened a meeting of Thai consular officials from around the world, calling on them to do their best in providing protection for Thai citizens overseas.

The annual seminar of consular officials worldwide has been organized by the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Consular Affairs, focusing on mechanisms for the integration of work to assist and protect Thai citizens residing in foreign countries. Lecturers were invited from several related agencies, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labor, Social Development and Human Security and Public Health as well as media organizations with connections to Thai communities abroad.

Ms Pattarat Hongtong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, stressed that one of the main responsibilities of Thai consular and embassy officials is to extend help and support to the over 1.6 million Thai nationals overseas whenever needed.

The Deputy Director-General advised all to concentrate on five issues, which are the promotion of knowledge, occupational skills, access to emotional support, health and harmony among Thais in foreign lands. Moreover, she highlighted the principles of approachability, equality and coordination as an operational guideline for the officials to follow.

Pity that won't be reciprocated by better care and protection of foreigners in Thailand

Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself.
