Books are more important than food ...

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm planning a trip that will include  some time in BKK and am wondering if I'll have a problem entering with a suitcase of books ... about 30 total. I know that Thailand is a strange duck and I don't want to ruffle its feathers. Thanks.

Just make sure the books are not anything to do with criticizing Thailand or the Thai Royalty.

I have about 8k books stored on devices and externals ... however, OMG most of the world's important books haven't been digitized in 2018 for god's sake.

Who wrote "The Bigle"? Googling books is easier when you have the author.

How long is 'sometime' in Bangkok ?

There are also other banned books that have nothing to do with Thailand itself but the content does relate to religion.

I am giving away my age here by mentioning the book "The Third Eye" by Lobsang Rampa as a prime example.

Unless the books you have are of financial or emotional value then don't risk bringing them in.    Remember you may have Thai goods to take back home and could end up as excess baggage.

You may possibly be able to buy copies of your books here, depending on your language.   There are two major bookstores in Bangkok and you can check online before you travel if they have them in stock and the price.

In the old days of travel in the 60's and 70's once you read a book you exchanged it with someone else you met on the road.

Others have mentioned Kindle books and stored books on external drives, depends what you want to lug around with you.
