BANGKOK — An anti-junta activist who’s come under frequent assault said he was left bloodied Wednesday by a group of men who attacked him with a sharpened wooden plank.

Ekachai Hongkangwan said three men on motorcycles ambushed him in front of his home at about noon as he was returning from protesting deputy junta leader Prawit Wongsuwan. He said he was struck four times, and many witnesses saw the attack.

Kudos to this guy, didn't he have pla raa thrown at him last month, and refuses to stop.

Despite having balls and determination, he's not gathering anyone to tag along on his solo protests, so he is walking down a tricky path.

Much respect.

Isn't it so sad - and so eloquent a testimony of the pusillanimity of the Thais - that virtually no one is coming out in support of this very brave chap, Ekachai? That is why the Thais are doomed to continued autocracy (or another, disallowed, word ...). If you don't strain every nerve and fibre for liberty - you will remain a slave - forever.

Mai pen rai. Thai soap operas are MUCH more important. Who gives a fig about liberty, justice and non-corruption? 'Nothing we can do!'

A self-fulfilling prophecy.

He is a serious threat to National security if ever I saw one...

Election delayed

Big Joke has just been promoted to the office of Prawit "Watches" Wongsuwan to search out these infidels and protect the Junta. Big headlines coming with Big Joke and Prawit hugging each other.

I hope the Thai people land a really unwanted result at the elections. Personally, I hope lots vote for the Future Forward Party as it would signal the entrance of the younger politicians in the fray...and signal that the dinosaurs are on notice.

Activist attacked after ‘justice call’ on Prawit

By THE NATION

POLITICAL activist Ekachai Hongkangwan was mysteriously assaulted yesterday soon after he returned from making his routine “justice call” on Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan over his expensive luxury watch collection.

This attack comes a week after two mysterious men threw a bucket of fermented fish at the activist before fleeing on a motorcycle without a licence plate.

Ekachai said he was attacked by three men in Soi Lat Phrao 109 yesterday. Two of them initially tried to run him over with their motorcycle, also without a licence plate, and then strike him with a helmet. They missed both times. Then a third man intervened and succeeded in hitting the activist on his arms and neck with a large wooden stick.

Ekachai’s left arm is broken and needs to be put in a cast, fellow activist Nuttaa Mahattana, who took him to Nopparat Ratchathani Hospital, said.

Meanwhile, police officers at Lat Phrao Police Station have said the case will be investigated.

The anti-junta activist has made repeated attempts to get near the junta’s No 2, in a symbolic move against both Prawit and the ongoing investigation into his luxury watch collection since the scandal emerged last December.

Ekachai was stopped by officers every time he got close to Government House or Prawit’s residence.

He is also said to have faced occasional threats from different sources.

The investigation over what some have suggested could be the 72-year-old general’s irregular wealth and alleged concealment of assets has gone almost nowhere under the National Anti-Corruption Commission, whose key members serve in office through the approval of junta-appointed legislators.

Clearly a totally spontaneous demonstration of disapproval by understandably outraged loyal supporters of the current administration, as opposed to a cynical and brutal beating by a hired gang of hitmen.

Sounds like the attacks are doing more damage. While he may be admirable in his efforts perhaps he needs to link up with people with similar goals, work to grow their numbers, and then really ramp up their efforts.

he is doing what he thinks is right , you dont need other people for that , even in london 1 man standing up for something is unheard of

Agreed, but more voices with shared goals are louder and harder to shut down. I too have a great deal of respect for this man but fear for his well being.
