A 57-year-old woman allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol crashed her Toyota Innova SUV into a police checkpoint in Bangkok’s Rat Burana district late Saturday night, injuring two officers and four motorcyclists.

The 11.30pm accident took place near the mouth of Soi Suksawat 35.

Pol Lt Colonel Pradit Plaiduan noted four damaged motorcycles and the SUV with a deeply dented front bumper and shattered windshield.

Driver Issaree Assawachaichat, 57, of Nakhon Pathom was tested and allegedly found to have 124 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, far above the 50-milligram legal limit.

Taken to hospital were police sergeants major Suriya Boontawan and Sommai Khunthong and motorcyclists Rawiroj Yimlamai, Siripen Khamnet, Ketsadaporn Anathamsomat and Jatuphum Daikrajai.

And yet no mention of what charges the driver is likely to face, or of anybody in authority denouncing such dreadful actions.

The driver's been tested and named - so, she's not a VIP. At least 500 baht fine for this one, I guess.

Geez... I would have expected a 57 year old hag to behave better...

Thunderdome....

No Licence, no insurance and 20 speeding tickets. No problem.

The cop looked in a bad way, poor guy. Everyone deserves to go to work and come home in the same state as the state they left in. Hope he makes a full recovery.

I suspect that the driver is in serious doggy doo, a lot more than a 500 baht fine.

Lets hope she gets a harsh prison sentence, she needs

to be made an example of,the Government and Police

Different strokes for different folks. Red Bull heir had megabucks and serious connections. Doubt that a middle aged woman driving a Toyota SUV is in his league.

If that happened in the US, she would be facing major charges, and would more than likely end up with $50,000 to $100,000 in legal bills, seizure of her car, revocation of her license, and either a massive fine, or more likely jail time. That is a serious offense, mowing down cops at a check point. Talk about plenty of witnesses to the crime. She should be locked up for at least five years, have her car taken away, and face a huge fine, in addition to reparations to those she injured.

What a moron. What can one even say?

She's had her "chips"! if you stand in the middle of the road expect that you will get run down?

Yes he did look in a bad way poor chap.  But then like most the dozy RTP are hardly alert at the best of times, but still no excuse for the woman.   If they want to prevent this sort of thing then the police just need to do away with all their checkpoints and install payment machines

Yes, the police need to determine her social status before deciding how to proceed. If she is a C-8 civil servant (unlikely in an Innova) the evidence and charges will probably disappear in favour of compensation. If she is unconnected and unco-operative in response to police demands for cash, she will probably find herself locked up.

All depends on how much money she got.......... Look at Mr. Red BULL......... TIT.......

She probably 'Is the MOM' of some Somchai with money......

Expect the driver to wind up in Cambodia or Laos before flying to London to wait for the statute of limitations to run out. Thailand 0.4 is coming.

No issue ...500 baht fine.. !!!

Well, Police in Thailand, that's what you get, if you do not enforce the law and accept bribes for free and a discount from rich and influential personalities.....

Correct... no fear of penalties

even under the new so called system of points (which is still only being muted) she would only get 3 penalties & be allowed to drive again, not changing her driving habits or ability to drink & drive.. or lack there-of!

While I have sympathy for anyone mown down on the roads for whatever reason.... usually it's the common folk who get this every day of the week!

She was at a meeting and was in a hurry to get home

She stopped for a small glass of wine and someone spiked her drink with 124 milligrams of alcohol, SHAME.

Optimist?  ?

A beautiful country full of many wonderful people. Why are there so many incompetent authorities and idiot drivers/riders on the roads? (Rhetorical).

Surprise wake up call for the police taking a nap. Throw the book at that inconsiderate driver
