A team from the Prawet District Office on Friday inspected the underpass where a woman drowned in her pickup truck that was submerged in floodwater earlier this week.

Panumas sae Tae, a 41-year-old businesswoman, died in the flooded underpass that led to the Golden Nakara housing estate in Bangkok’s Prawet district early on Thursday.

The underpass, which goes under a railway bridge, was built to provide access to residents of the estate. It remains unclear how it became heavily flooded between Wednesday night and early hours of Thursday.

Prawet District Office’s director Tanasit Methpanmuang led a team to inspect the tunnel on Friday morning.

The underpass is about 95.4 metres long, 10 metres wide, and three metres high.

Tanasit said there was a report that a BMW sedan broke down in 60-cm of floodwater inside the tunnel at about 9pm on Wednesday. “This suggests at the time, there might have been about 400 cubic metres of water inside the tunnel,” he said.

Judging by the floodwater level that submerged Panumas’s pickup at 1am on Thursday, floodwater must have increased to 1,613.5 cubic metres just hours later.

“We need to find out how such a huge volume of water went into the underpass,” he said, adding that there was no rain in the area during that period.

His office has arranged a meeting with representatives of housing estates under its jurisdictions to discuss preventative measures.

“There should be CCTV and equipment to respond to emergencies,” Tanasit said. “For example, if a vehicle gets submerged, there should be [apparatus] to haul it out of floodwater”.

Panumas phoned for help when she found she was trapped by the floodwater, but help came too late.

Tanasit said there are two similar underpasses at housing estates in the Prawet district.

So it's all a big mystery where the water came from... it wasn't rain so it just appeared from nowhere. Someone's stuffed up and the cover-up is on. It's the car's fault, it broke down.

Mystery solved the sun came out and the investigation concluded no evidence?

A simple inspection is not helpful in this case.
A committee has to be appointed to conduct visits to Europe and USA to find out how civilized countries prevent underpasses from being submerged.
Thailand 4.0 ...

something called water ??

In a previous report it stated a pump broke down, obviously they have a problem with drainage

whether pumps were working or not THE ROAD SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSED once the water reached dangerous levels

That was time to take action for repairs or at least to close it in a good and visible way. to prevent worse, but this is Thailand 4.0

When they throw out so many details, you can be sure they have no clue.

Or they've been quoting their friend who works for the Royal Irrigation Department.

... ie. still no clue.

Drunk?

surprised as a regular user of the underpass surely she would have noted the water level was unusually high why drive into it.

Why did she not get out of the truck and leave it there?

Or, even get out and sit on the roof?

Just to sit in the car, slowly filling up with water and drown seems strange.

Perhaps they arrest the editors of newspapers who published the story as it is detrimental to the image of Thailand?

Or illegal Burmese workers flooded the underpass, while netizens were in outrage over a farang taking a selfie with their Y front underpants showing through wet clothes in the rain.

But, don't worry... now there will be crackdown on something... and also make Thailand a hub of something else to take peoples minds off it all.

More the reason for all Thais around/near water sources to learn how to SWIM.

General Custers last words.. "where did those arrows come from"

Thailands last words " where did all that water come from" ?

What is strange about a Thai not using common sense ?
