webfact Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 NLA wants cyber law to cover poll fraud FILE photo BANGKOK, 12th September 2018 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has proposed that the government enforce a new cyber law to monitor election campaigns on social media before the general election tentatively scheduled for next year. The NLA President, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, said on Tuesday (Sept 11) that such law should be added to the cyber security bill, now being vetted by the government's legal advisory body, the Council of State, as wrongdoings in the cyber world often go undetected, especially if they are committed in the run-up to or during an election. The bill is scheduled to be enacted after it has been given the green light from the cabinet and the Council of State. Mr. Pornpetch said the government should propose this additional clause to the NLA before the upcoming election because any delay would mean it only has the ordinary national security law in place during the election. The NLA President insisted that the new bill is not intended to limit freedom of expression, but this right should not be exploited to serve hidden interests. -- nnt 2018-09-12

As the NLA is NCPO's surrogate, there is nothing hidden about the intent of a new cyber law. Expect a 2017 Referendum Act type law or series of laws that will prohibit free exchange of viewpoints and ideas through the internet and in public. What ever it takes to present a one-sided pro-military campaign. Remember even if a candidate is suspected of violating laws, the EC can suspend their candidacy before the election date. 1

The 'NLA' and the 'NCPO' are a distinction without a difference. Get back to us when a furious battle is raging between the two or simply stop wasting everyone's time with this nonsense.
