Foreign tourist assaulted by security guard after being denied entry at Don Mueang

A video clip showing a security guard at Don Mueang airport assaulting a Chinese tourist has gone viral.

Footage of the incident, which took place on Thursday, shows the guard in an altercation with the Chinese man.

The guard can be seen raising his hand to the face of the man, before taking a wild swing in an attempt to punch him.

The Chinese man manages to evade the punch before another airport security guard tries to calm the situation.

The Chinese man then appears to be incensed by the incident and can be seen shouting and pointing at the guards.

INN reported that the incident occurred after the Chinese man had been refused entry to Thailand after arriving on a flight from Jakarta.

The Chinese man had been refused entry as had been unable to show proof of onward travel, accommodation or that he sufficient funds to support his stay in Thailand.

He was then taken to an immigration detention room but refused to stay and reentered the airport.

A short time later he was confronted by the security guard which is when the incident took place.

The clip has received widespread coverage by media in China, where the actions of the guard have been heavily criticised.

At a press conference held on Saturday afternoon Don Mueang airport general Suterawat Suwnnawat apologised for the incident which he described as regrettable.

Mr Suterawat said the guard involved has been suspended and will face a disciplinary procedure which will almost certainly result in him losing his job.

Mr Suterawat said that a formal apology will be sent to the Chinese Embassy.

  • And what about the Chinese? Thailand has to bow backwards for a guy making trouble because he is refused entry, and the guard will lose his job? Shameful.

  • I wonder if there would be a formal apology forthcoming if the tourist had been a westerner.

Good move on his part - regardless on how agitated the person was - that physical response from the guard was inexcusable

Cooler heads should have prevailed here

entry to Thailand ,so goes on walkabout in airport,he refused to stay

in the detention room!,sounds like he was trying to enter Thailand anyway.

Nobody was bowing backwards, but the guard lost his cool.  Could have been handled better methinks

Looked like it was in the waiting area - and as per previous post - guard could have handled it better tbh

Umm, yes?

Is this not a secure area? He can refuse to stay and walk out? How does that work???

On the video,we don't know what happened before the guard

hit him,if the Chinese had stayed where he was supposed to

in the detention area, this would never have happened, some of

these Chinese deserve a slap, they can be very arrogant.

Thailand a bit quick off the mark to grovel to the Chinese.

This Chinese man should consider himself lucky that he was not allowed to enter. He could have quite easily drowned at sea or been killed in a bus accident. Immigration did him a favour.

I have little sympathy for the Chinese.

Ass-kissers. Will they send the airforce otherwise?

Guard was probably sick of the Chinese pushing in everywhere at the airport. Let's face it, most of the rest of us are...

Surprised in a large international airport to never see any armed police patrolling to counter terrorism. See one occasionally whizzing somewhere on a Segway, but nothing similar to the armed patrols in Europe or the US.

Police may have slightly better training than a 300 baht/day security guard, although violence seems the first tactic for both security and police here.

No. Punching a person is not "doing his job".  There are other ways. Reading Thainews makes me less and less desire to go back to Thailand. Probably the only reason are food amd friends. Luckily i do not read news about Vietnam which makes far more easier to stay long term beside having better amd cheaper beer.????

Was the guard "raising his hand" because the tourist was "coming at him"?

I would have to see what took place during the previous 30 seconds before I made a judgement as to who should be doing the apologising.

Don't worry, TAT will tart it up to smell sweet.

The Chinese guy should think himself lucky we was in Thailand, in some countries doing a runner from immigration detention area could get you seriously harmed - including shot.

when it comes to China, Thailand is like the new guy in prison.

What is one guard worth ?

What is Chinese tourism worth, a lot more than any guard is worth !

The guard had no right to assault the tourist, sure definitely a language barrier, who's to blame there, could anyone speak Chinese to Thai or English to communicate with the tourist, seriously, if Thailand is wanting tourism, it should polish its act up and get people to learn the languages of the tourists who will be contributing billions of baht to their economy instead of just coming up with their typical Sawadee Kup/Kar greeting, perhaps welcome in English or Huan Ying in Chinese/Mandarin, anyone can Google it, but do Thai's have the patients, educational standards to even contemplate that, some are thicker than others, and this cowboy security guard should be dismissed IMO, regardless if the tourist was put in detention for not having what was required of him, you don't go swinging at the bloke, he obviously wanted to see his mates again who filmed the event fortunately for him.

Regardless, poor PR from Thai immigration, i.e. it wouldn't take too much to book this bloke some support from the Chinese embassy, that said they deserve everything they get the way they have stuffed everything up with the Chinese tourism market of late.

I am not a fan of Chinese tourists, as much as I am not a fan of Russian or Indian tourists, they are all rude, load and smell, in that order, but then again, I am not a fan of some Thai's as well, especially the male types with the big ego's.

In other countries he would be eating bullets.

I have to agree with the guard. Chinese man was probably arrogant and became obnoxious and went against authority. Why does Thailand have to kiss the Chinese <deleted> and everyone else simply gets nabbed and abused. Chinese guy was wrong and that is that.

Are people aware the rudeness & how unflexable the Chinese government security guards & employees can be to visiting foreigners?

Yeah, try that at a US airport and see what happens.

I applaud the Thai security guard for doing his job.  The insolent tourist was taken somewhere where he refused to stay.  All bets are off when you break the law.

No problem he can get a job as a  nurse and beat elderly patients without fear of losing his  job just a quick transfer. Thailand "where wonders never  cease"...............I think i just invented their new campaign slogan
