Gotta keep the gravy train rolling even if we have to grovel.

This action by a China man in the US could have got him shot

They should have shot him with a tranquiliser dart like a hippopotamus.

China is Thailand’s biggest source of tourists, making up about a quarter of its 35 million visitors last year.

A quarter of 35 million is 8.75 million Chinese and the Rest of the World 26.25 million so how can China be Thailand's biggest source?

I don't think it's a bad thing that a pm would step in. Most other nations wouldn't bother

Dear God

what would have happened had a Chinese maiden been anally raped and beaten to death with gardening implement.

Th esteemed PM would would be in the worlds biggest state of flux! and would probably have to buy another 50 submarines

It will happen.

In time, they'll be scammed and slaughtered in the same ways all those who came before them were. It's already underway with mass drownings and airport thrashings.

As the PM knows, this is MASSIVE NEWS in Chinese media,  and the reason is simple. The state media latch on anything anywhere that makes overseas look 'bad' relative to China. A Chinese business associate who's spent most of his adult life in the west told me this directly.

It's very selective, and totally cynical, if you read the entire thread with reference to far worse crimes on tourists, that would soon be quite aparrent.

This is going to hurt the pockets of the bigwigs & company!

“The prime minister has expressed regret over the incident and is concerned about Chinese sentiment,” Sansern said.

"China is Thailand’s biggest source of tourists, making up about a quarter of its 35 million visitors last year."

Wonder if he (and the Thai media) would be showing the same "regret" if the tourist had been from the UK for instance?

Methinks it would be a case of another Brit behaving badly and as he should have stayed in the detention room, it was not the Security Guards fault - he was only doing his job!

And when the Government of that country can, by simple order without any consequences whatsover, tell every Chinese tourist "Nope, you can go there" you see why the Thais have no choice but to kiss the boot that would trample them.

Beware of Greeks bearing giflts. Chinese tourism is just another weapon. Do as we say or our peeps wont spend any money in your country.

Looking in the wrong direction, the Chinese tourist invasion will soon diminish, once King Donald’s trade war starts to bite. Back to a bowl of rice a week.

Maybe a poor understanding of the Chinese economy. China has a huge domestic economy unlike a decade ago. Chinese companies had spreaded overseas and decoupling of the American economy is already on the card. Many goods exported to the US are purchased by China based subsidiaries of the US parent companies. So though goods are made in China, the actual owners are American directly or indirectly. Imposing tariff on China goods also hurts the US companies who has interest in China. Maybe in retaliation China can start redeeming all those US treasury bills they are hoarding for so long now...

1. The goods being purchased by US parent companies will be made in countries more friendly. This is already happening.

2. China dumping TBills hurts their investment. When one owns too much, one cant take any steps to destroy the value of the investment.

All China needs to do is play fair.

Yup, Prayut biscuits will be mighty dry without all that Chinese gravy... ????

Interestingly, don't know what is true, but the Shanghaiist is reporting online that it is because he refused to pay the arrival "tip" money - (I have personally seen them asking the hundreds of Chinese arrivals on late night/early morning flights to 'prepare your 100 bht" tip money  as they queue.... ???)

????????????

Just another slap in the face for Thailand's Chinese tourist push.

I don't condone what the security did , but knowing full well how these Chinese tourists belligerently conduct themselves , I think tgis guy got was coming.

What measures would have been taken to right the wrong had there not been video evidence that was shared and consumed by the Chinese public, affecting tourism spending?

Exactly.

What was "the wrong"? Anyone who doesn't realize that the Chinese think they are at the top of the food chain in Asia is fooling themselves.  That thinking gives you unearned privileges like not listening to, yelling at, and abusing authorities in countries you deem inferior; and, thinking you can get away with it.  Video evidence doesn't tell the whole story.

If some Chinese folk were to have a spot of bother on Koh Tao what would be the outcome?

Some very nervous people from Myanmar, no doubt!

The Chinese guy was in a restricted area without permission & had been denied entry into the Kingdom.

The security guy was trying to do his job but was untrained to to so.

A trained operative would have taken him to the ground, handcuffed him & with his mate returned him to where he was supposed to have stayed.

Stop bleating

I'd be concerned about how I can restore Thailand to democracy asap - but hey, that's only me.

So they could have found a kinder, gentler way to drag this belligerent individual into the containment area until he could be shipped out? You can bet that the intent was to get out of the airport and to meld into the crowds. The Chinese and Koreans are pretty sure that the rules are intended for everyone but them, especially if they can bully their way into bypassing any laws or regulations.
