A Thai enters Thailand on a EU Passport

Featured Replies

The Thai intends to stay in Thailand for the foreseeable future with her EU husband.

She has a Thai ID but no Thai passport.

I believe that she will be treated as an EU Citizen and can have a 30 day visa waiver and all the rules that go with it.

In order for her to stay as a Thai, will she have to obtain a Thai passport,

then leave Thailand on the EU passport and return on the new Thai passport?

She thinks that once she has the Thai passport there is no need to leave and re-enter.

Advice please

Edit

Maybe she does not have to leave because she will never need to show the EU PP again?

Once entering the country using a non thai passport she will have to leave the country on that passport.

She will have to leave the country on the EU passport and return using the Thai passport.

To avoid problems she could apply for a passport at the Thai embassy where she is living or a certificate of identity if there is not enough time to get the passport. She could use the certificate of identity to enter Thailand as a Thai.

Well she would have departed Thailand at one point from Thailand on a thai passport - so as far as immigration is concerned she is out of the country.

If she arrives back in Thailand on a foreign passport she’ll be subject to immigration rules.

she can enter on her expired Thai passport. That is allowed.

other than that she should get herself a new Thai passport in the country she is in.

Otherwise she is just setting herself up for lots of bureaucratic pain when she arrives on her EU passport

She is lucky having an EU passport ( Country one od the remaining 27 in the EU) and dual C. best of 2 worlds.

What do you mean with "dual C."?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
