Incorrect date stamp given for retirement ext. Options please?

Recommended Posts

A friend has discovered on arriving back in Thailand from an overseas trip that he was only given six months  instead of twelve when he applied for his retirement extension last February 2018. As his extension expired in August 2018, he was given a 30 day visa exempt on arrival. Unfortunately, he omitted to check his passport after receiving the extension.

Is it possible to convert a 30 day visa exempt either to a tourist visa or directly to a non immigrant O for the purpose of retirement and if so, what is the procedure?  Apparently this can not be done at Jomtien,  but could this be done at Chaeng Wattana? He does have a Bangkok address if necessary.

Thanks for any replies.

Yes, as long as he has at least 15 days left (he can extend the 30 days by 30 days if necessary) of his visa exempt stay he can apply for a non-immigrant ‘O’ visa at Bangkok immigration as a prerequisite to applying for another extension of stay.

About two weeks after applying for the visa it will be issued and he’ll receive a 90 day permit to stay. Towards the end of that 90 days he will be able to apply for the 1 year extension.
