Thai - Cambodia Conflict Thailand Unites: Flags Fly High Amid Border Tensions
Photo via Facebook/ Siam Center In a powerful display of national solidarity, business operators across Thailand have showcased the national flag on their buildings to uplift the spirits of soldiers stationed at the Thai-Cambodian border. This gesture comes amid ongoing clashes despite a recent ceasefire agreement. Prominent retail centres like Siam Piwat's Siam Center, Siam Paragon, and ICONSIAM have transformed their LED screens to feature the Thai flag. At the bustling fountain square linking Siam Center and Siam Paragon, a grand LED display cycles the flag every five to ten minutes, becoming a focal point for countless passers-by who pause to capture the moment. The flag's presence extends beyond malls. Along the Chao Phraya River, the immense ICONSIAM sign is a beacon for river commuters, inviting them to photograph its vibrant colours. Moreover, Baiyoke Tower II, one of Thailand's tallest buildings, prominently displays the flag atop its rooftop screens, while the Pearl Bangkok office building bathes itself in red, white, and blue light. The Rama VII Bridge also glows with these patriotic shades, a symbolic nod to unity. Office buildings throughout Bangkok join in, draping facades with flags and themed lighting to boost morale and send a clear message of support to the troops on the frontlines. In Pattaya, a popular tourist haven, the iconic sign near Bali Hai Pier mirrors this national sentiment, lighting up in the flag's colours. Shopping centres and offices nationwide have adopted similar displays, uniting the country in spirit with those bravely stationed at the border. Despite the previous day’s ceasefire agreement brokered in Malaysia, violent confrontations resumed last night, continuing into this morning, some 29 July. A scheduled military dialogue, set for 7am today, has been postponed indefinitely as hostilities persist. This collective effort by business operators and buildings across Thailand speaks volumes about the nation's resilience and determination to rally together during challenging times. It showcases a nation unified in support and hopeful for a peaceful resolution. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-07-29 -
