webfact
Thai Consulate-General in Nanning urges Thailand to continue relations with both US and China File photo BANGKOK, 16 October 2018 (NNT) - The Thai Consulate-General in the Chinese city of Nanning has urged Thailand to continue strengthening relations with both the United States and China, affirming that the current trade war will not impact Thai exports. Commercial Affairs Consul, Sakarn Saensopa, said the trade dispute will mostly affect working class Chinese in the short term, as companies move their production operations to other countries, including ASEAN nations. Furthermore, the US has sought to replace Chinese suppliers with those in Thailand. Therefore Sakarn assured that the Kingdom’s position has not been compromised by the current dispute. The ongoing US-China trade war has prompted the International Monetary Fund to reduce its global growth forecast for 2019 from 4.2% to 4% and has caused concern among Thai exporters over a trade slump. The Commercial Affairs Consul urged Thailand to maintain good relations with both the US and China, as the two countries negotiate a settlement agreement. -- nnt 2018-10-
