BANGKOK, 18th October 2018 (NNT) - The metropolitan traffic police have re-purposed the area under a road-bridge crossing on Asok Montri Road into a zebra crossing, in a bid to alleviate heavy traffic congestion in the area.

According to Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek , the construction of the Ratchayothin tunnel is the cause of the traffic issue. The tunnel, which is expected to be operational next month, will funnel vehicles from Ratchayothin Road to Asok Montri Road. The volume of traffic on the latter is expected to increase when schools resume.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan recently examined the traffic on the Asok-Petchaburi intersection to the Asok -Sukhumvit intersection, and instructed officials to turn the area underneath the Saphan Mit Samphan 2 Bridge into a zebra crossing. The bridge is located near the pier leading to Srinakharinwirot University. Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan encouraged pedestrians to use the new zebra crossing in place of the one in front of Rutnin Eye Hospital during rush hours until further notice.

Metropolitan traffic police address traffic on Asok Montri Road: "Hello traffic! You're stuck, huh? Well, you should be used to it by now."

"And expect more in the future since "they" want to increase cars by 100,000 per year over the next 10 years."

(or so I've read, but I don't know who "they" are, exactly. Cannot be any sane person or persons)
