23rd and 24th October public holidays

Featured Replies

Will I be able to have a beer on these days?

Thanks

Two or three threads already running.

23 is a public/office holiday (Chulalongkorn day).

24 is a Buddhist holiday (end of B. lent), NOT a public/office holiday.

Conflicting opinions.

I still bet on mine:

23 no restrictions for alcohol/entertainment

24 bar closure, alc sales prohibited

The current government had it made it very clear that all Buddhist holidays will be closure/alc prohibited days.

You win.

That is correct according to research I did about no alcohol days when I did the holiday list.

Since you appear to be so worried about not missing out, I suggest you buy a beer a day earlier and enjoy it in your room.

Oct 24 is a Buddhist Holiday (End of Buddhist Rain Retreats), so no alcohol sales, at least in the big cities.  This holiday also marks the end of many Thai's abstinence from drinking for the three months of Rain Retreats, so it's also the day a whole lot of Thais fall off the wagon, i.e., you can probably buy Thai whiskey and beer after the morning celebration of Aawk Pansa is completed.  Falling down-drunk by dinner-time.  I live in the sticks - it's a different world out here.

Me too

No shortage if desired.

Fortunately the terrible firework/bangers abuse during weeks before has been successfully forbidden. Shops selling bangers/firecrackers to kids is no more.

And abstinence from gambling, card and dice games ends :whistling:

I agree absolutely with Ubonjoe, as I always do.  I have done similar research on this subject, following repeated requests from bar owners and pool league players I know and he is spot on.
