Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday said Cambodians should not be concerned over an influx of Chinese nationals in Preah Sihanouk province, where a rising investment has led to foreign population growth and a spike in crime. Speaking to supporters in Switzerland, Mr Hun Sen said the increase in Chinese nationals is a result of economic development and Chinese investment.

“Some people are concerned about an increase of Chinese nationals in Preah Sihanouk province,” he said. “Please be aware that there are a lot of construction [projects] there. We [Cambodia] cannot supply them with enough skilled workers. What can we do?” “We must allow them to bring their skilled workers to build bridges and other projects,” Mr Hun Sen added. “This is a technical help we need.”

Safety concerns for the province have recently prompted authorities to create specialised groups aimed at curbing crimes being committed by foreigners in Sihanoukville. In August, the National Police formed an eleven-member working group, drawn from senior officials from various departments to evaluate the security situation in the province.

Well, the writing is on the wall. China has been on an endless shopping trip through Africa and Asia while Europe is busy with itself and the US is still president-bashing itself. Notably both, Europa and the US, are democracies going slowly down the toilet, while the brethren in the North ........

Lets see in 10 years again; maybe my operating system on my computer then with be in Chinese and I replaced by AI ????

It is too late we have sold the farm already, but my retirement fund looks good.

The place is ruined. Just what they need 16 new casinos ,,,,, what bridges ?

A Cambodian news report earlier this year reported that there were 70 casinos under construction or in the planning stages for the beach front areas of Sihanoukville.

I was in Snooky back in July.  There were over 50 casinos already operating and over 50 more being built.  The plans for the casino/hotels are made in China.  The steel is made and cut to order in China, everything is shipped on Chinese ships.  The construction equipment is from China.  The construction workers are from China.  The hotels, most resorts, restaurants, and many apartment houses or condominiums are owned by and/or totally rented to Chinese.

The biggest and best beach, Ochheuteal, had been bought up by the Chinese, all the bars and shops along the beach were gone, and the beach was fenced off.  Most of the other beaches are inaccessible since they are now part of a Chinese owned casino and hotel.  They have even chewed away a large portion of the mountain that the Leu Pagoda sits on just for landfill.

The streets were strewn with trash and the sewers were overflowing - most of the town smelled like a sewer.

The Khmer are without work unless they work at minimum wages in one of the Chinese owned sweat shops in the Chinese owned industrial park North of Snooky on the way to PNH.

Snooky is totally owned by and for the Chinese.

That was my last trip to Snooky.

A few of the displaced Kmer's have been given (menial) jobs cleaning the beaches in front of the Chinese operated restaurants, the rest have relocated as the rents for locals have now increased 400-500% in the development areas.
