Livestock Development chief vows to end rabies spread by next year

By The Nation

Livestock Development Department director general Sorawit Thanito on Saturday vowed to end the spread of rabies in Thailand by next year.

Sorawit said the department would train volunteers to give free rabies shots to all dogs and cats across the country.

Sorawit said the volunteers would be trained by veterinarians and will receive certificates and be officially assigned by law to be rabies vaccine givers in accordance with the Rabies Control Act of 1992.

Sorawit said the volunteers would launch a national campaign to give the shots from March to May across the country.

The department would cooperate with local administrations around the country to survey the number of domestic and stray dogs and cats and it would provide rabies vaccines to cover at least 80 per cent of the surveyed animals, Sorawit added.

This has already started in Kap Choeng/Surin.

"Unfortunately we previously experienced a little mishap in the supply of vaccine. Our new order is on the way and we hope it will be enough..."

What a dreamer he is . Rabies shots ain't going to stop spreading the Virus how they are going to to get Avery mutt and cat vaccinated. They better spent their money and time to cull all the soi dogs and cats than they can say that that lot won't infect anyone.
