swindonabroad
Woke up this morning and for some reason this question popped into my head. What does the name Sukhumvit mean? ( If anything). Does it have origins in Europe? ( kinda sounds German/ Austrian/ Dutch). A pretty random question I know but any help would be appreciated. jasreeve17
this reminds me of that old uk game show call my bluff with frank muir and some other octogenarian half wit !! Can we not get a call my bluff thread going? Example:- Ulaan Bataar is so named because: a) Chenggis Khan's mother was called Bataar and Ulaan means the great one. The Russians named it - red hero. c) The Chinese named it - new baron land. With the internet it might be too easy, but...

lampard10
Actually you're all wrong It actually stands for what a respected leader once said, way back in the days when the streets had no names. He came straight after a bunch of Norwegians celebrating monday had passed by. He was heard to utter " UGH Sick and vomit" and the name stuck. As with everything it got changed slightly over the years, and now you have it as Suhkomvit. Edited February 17, 2007 by lampard10

leisurely
No no no, you're wrong about Keith Cheggers Chegwin. He was never on tiswas, he was affiliated to Noel Edmunds Multicolouredswapshop!
StickKettleOn
Lol, you have me there. It was indeed Multi Coloured Swapshop. I have my facts muddled. I just did a wikipedia and aparently Sukhmivit was named after Bob Carol Gees and his highly respected town planning official, Spit the Dog. By the way.... anyone know what Spit the Dogs middle name is?
