Backpacker reveals how she escaped terrifying kidnap attempt in Thailand

A young university student backpacking her way through Thailand has revealed how a terrifying taxi ride during a drunken night out left her bloodied on the side of the road pretending to be dead.

 

After completing a year abroad studying in Shanghai, on a whim Rachel Turner decided to fly into Chiang Mai before bussing her way down to Ko Pha-ngan in early August 2017.

 

Travelling alone, the then 22-year-old made friends with a group of backpackers at her hostel who convinced her to buy a ticket for the incredibly boozy half moon festival.

 

“There was just a lot of alcohol, the hotel was giving out shots for free, it was one of those events when you just start drinking in the middle of the day,” she told Yahoo7 News.

Can't really judge her decision to travel alone cos we are all free to make mistakes. However, she should not put it to the media what happened to her because, in my opinion, most people won't have pity on her. Getting shiiiitttteee faced is a bad idea when abroad in a counbtry where you do not speak the native language. When I am away from home I simply don't drink. But that is just me.

Pretty good language skills for an island motorcycle driver. Even cursing in English at her when he thinks she is dead. 

OK let's have it,  10pics of BJ over a 2 week period with stories of she lied,  we are going to meet with her,  cannot interview her,  then finish it off with great honest deed by some taxi driver or some other grinning numptie.

Donald Trump has a favourite name for this sort of media story but I have already been punished for using the two offending words on a previous occasion.  You can probably guess the two 4 letter words but don't be silly and risk beinng banned

She says she wash drunk out of her head it’s incredible that she can remember so much about what happened . Why I ask did she not go to the police or report it to the Hostel management who would have helped her. If you go to these type of events with friends then you should stay together I live on Phangan this is the first I have heard of this supposedly attempted kidnapping there are many farangs both Male and female who have lived on the island for many months and years and I have never heard of any of them being threatened or abused unless they have kept it to themselves . I would rather live on Phangan than Samui or Koh Tao.

She's got that crazy stare that some women tend to have at times.. some, I mean most

In the late 70s when I was in my teens I move to London to try my luck out, was looking for some "adventure" in my life.....I was very "green" even though I thought I knew it all and was in the early stages of Alcoholism. Anyway, I found myself one night in a "gay" late night club being fussed over like I was royalty ...drinks were being bought for me left right and center (I was a good looking chappie in those days). I started to feel a bit unsafe so I decided to leave. ..My departure was blocked...there was no way they were letting me out of that club....I guessed they felt ..."No way mate" ..not untill they got what they paid for, in their eyes. I quickly copped on as to what was happening and said "OK"...just let me use the toilet first. Looking back I guess it was because I kept my calm...they really believed I only wanted to genuinely use the loo. I went in, locked the door behind me and escaped out a window and ran along the roofs and got away (the toilet was on the top floor.

  Now ..the point of my telling this story... It never occurred to me then, or anytime since then, to tell my story to the papers, news media, police, or whatever...I have to think,...why do a lot of women tell these things to the above. A lot of bad stuff happens in life and if you escape it relatively unscathed, why not just thank your lucky stars and move on....especially one year after the event?

I cannot imagine how terrifying an experience like this would be to a young university student "women."  The likelihood of a man being abducted for sex by a cute Thai girl; is close to zero.  So, I can understand the misogynistic statements prior to mine, but don't condone them.  This woman was in fear for her life and fearful of being forced to provide sex to this Thai thug.

Yes young drunk and stupid.gives a sex pervert the right to do whatever he wants to her.at least she was sober enough to realise what was going on else it could of ended up as a case of false claims of rape as usual.please let's not blame the victim because she had a few too many.would you want your wife/gf to get a lift in the middle of the night of this moto taxi.you sir seem to have the attitude of a Thai policeman,theres a sexual predator out there that one day will strike if he hasn't already.

I remember that one time - years and years ago when I still was a young, silly man - I walked into a dodgy bar somewhere in Bangkok. I was drinking a lot and eventually that strange girl steps up to me, apparently wanting to make friends.

 

After a lot more drinking – in which she graciously partook – I decided it was time to go back to the hotel. It must’ve been the early morning hours. I can’t remember, really, because I was stone drunk. In any case, the girl insisted on joining me, the “good friends” we now apparently were.

 

When we got in a taxi, I told the driver where I wanted to go. “No!” my new friend said in a sharp voice, “I know a better place and you come with me!” I realized that I was being kidnapped, but was unable and too afraid to react.

 

We checked into a dingy backyard guesthouse in some slum area, a place where my companion obviously was already well-known, as the scruffy-looking male receptionist greeted her enthusiastically.

 

The girl took me to a dimly lit, sparsely furnished room where she then proceeded to have her way with me, raping me over and over again. I was too afraid (and too drunk) to effectively fight her off. Worst thing was that when it was finally over she even extorted a couple of thousand baht from me.

 

Her devilish deed accomplished, she eventually fell asleep. That was my cue. My alcohol level having tapered out somewhat in the meantime, I quietly sneaked out of the room and past the by now likewise snoozing receptionist. I never reported the incident to the police. But inspired by the horrific story in this article, I perhaps should contact Yahoo7 News to recount my own terrifying ordeal.  

Can't really believe or don't want to believe how many people on this site are blaming the girl for getting drunk instead of being concerned that someone tried to kidnap her. She hasn't tried to hide the fact she was intoxicated. This type of thing happens to girls and women all over the world all the time whether drunk or sober and then they have to put up with the kind of crap dished out by these guys on Thai Visa.

It's amazing how a story can change the longer ago it was. It's pretty much human nature to change details of an event to put yourself in a better light as most people aren't willing to accept blame for their own actions (or stupidity).

I'm sure a lot of people have done stupid things and later in life changed the details so they wouldn't look like the idiots they actually were. 

As previously mentioned, pretty good English for a guy in a "high vis vest" - "deep in the rainforest".

Shouldn't be hard to track down a Thai man with a hivis vest that speaks English that well (well enough to even swear in English) !

Pretty good memory (a year later) as well for someone who was supposedly intoxicated at the time.
Started drinking in the middle of the afternoon. Left the party early but the "streets of the village were deserted". (Possible - if she wasn't actually in a village but on the road from the festival site which passes by numerous houses which would probably look "deserted" as everyone would be inside watching TV - or at work).

(Lots of stories like this share one thing in common - no details, just generalities. That way they can't be pinned down on something, like if she'd said she was staying at the (abc) hostel and left the party at 6 in the evening and then you see that the (abc) hostel is located in a busy area that wouldn't ever be "deserted" at 6 pm. I'll bet if she'd been asked, she "wouldn't remember" what time it was when she left or the name of the hostel or any other actual details - like what she drank or how many she had. But she remembers every word her would be "kidnapper" said.)

(Something like 40+ hostels/hotels plus shops/restaurants and other places within a couple kms of the "festival" site but looking at the road from the festival site to where most of the hostels are located, even though it has streetlights, would probably look "deserted" for stretches.)

Oh right. Didn't go to the police. Didn't go to a hospital/clinic. Waits a year before going public.

The only thing missing from the story was the "We pay cash for your stories" like you see at the bottom of similar stories in the Sun and Mirror.
