Hook smartphone to TV via cable?

My mate, in Hong Kong, says he connects his smartphone (android) to his TV via  HDMi cable. Along with his VPN he can watch  whatever he chooses on the big screen, so he says, with hardly any problems. He's gotta pay for the WiFi or data but generally cheap.

But in CM i could not find the cable with android end and HDMi end. Where should i look next for this cable?

You will need an adaptor that plugs into your phone and the HDMI plugged into it.I think it's called a MHL.

Some phones can do HDMI and some cannot, my tablet is one that cannot so I have to use a ChromeCast.

So i have learned, crossy.  My new phone, Moto 4e+, does not support MHL.  I will consider Chromecast.
