BANGKOK, 7 November 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's Interior Minister, General Anupong Paochinda, has defended the government’s Thai Niyom Yangyuen or Sustainable Thai Idealism project, claiming it has succeeded in empowering communities and it was not a move to win votes.

The criticism came from former Auditor General, Pisit Leelavachiropas, who said the Sustainable Thai Idealism project is no different in nature from the populist policies the administration previously condemned.

Gen Anupong revealed the government will summarize the results of the project on November 22nd and added that any misuse of the project to win votes would be punishable under the law.

The Sustainable Thai Idealism campaign was initiated by the government to solve issues regarding security, economy and society, while pushing the country towards the Thailand 4.0 development agenda.

and i bet this is what most thinking people also believe; opposing that are denials, with little logic provided, by an appointed military general from an unelected , authoritarian government

Funny, from what I've read on it so far, anyone with an idea of a business or a project has been able to apply.

Security? Within a village/small town? What security is that in a political concept?

Thailand 4.0 - I bet most people see that as the start of a football result: Thailand 4 Arsenal 0

"Sustainable Thai Idealism" is that newspeak for nationalism?

"In its most democratic form, populism seeks to defend the interest and maximize the power of ordinary citizens, through reform rather than revolution." https://www.britannica.com/topic/populism

As the so-called Sustainable Thai Idealism is being dictated by an unelected government that was  installed without the majority support of the Thai electorate, it runs counter to the interest and sovereign power of ordinary Thais.

There is authoritarian populism and democratic populism. Sustainable Thai Idealism is a program to dispense gifts from the minority extra-constitutional elite to the constitutional-bound majority. These gifts are only sustainable so long as the elite benefits from their existence.

So yes, Sustainable Thai Idealism is populism, but not the good kind for the Thai people in general.

Old-school Siamese/Thai life and lifestyles are sustainable -

Community-based populism, by it's very nature.

Thai Niyom Yangyuen policies are reflective rhetoric driven to serve a militaristic/ammat/political elite, as this "sustainability" ideal was penned and introduced by influential ones, some years ago - and naturally, not practiced or harnessed by them or their associations by example.

I'm calling bs on all of this, as are the good Thais.

See right through it.

Just laugh. Has Pinnochio any more tricks borrowed from former performers. Please not TV producer
