DREAMWORKS

Shrek and spin-off Puss in Boots are both being treated to a reboot courtesy of the man behind the minions.

Yep, you read that right. Chris Meledandri, the producer of the Despicable Me franchise, is taking on the mammoth responsibility of relaunching everyone's big green buddy Shrek, voiced in the original film series by Mike Myers.

The first Shrek film premiered in 2001, followed by sequels Shrek 2 in 2004, Shrek the Thirdin 2007 and Shrek Forever After in 2010. While a fifth film has been in the works for a while now too, it seems like the bosses are now taking a new approach to the franchise.

According to Variety, Meledandri has been asked to come up with new storylines to re-introduce the ogre to new movie audiences – but don't worry, the producer said that he doesn't want to mess with the original cast in any future Shrek films if he can help it.

Those Shrek movies are iconic, particularly the first and the 4th. Puss in Boots was great too. I guess they try to cash in on that perfection, but I doubt there is much left in the well.

So we can look forward to a PC piece of <deleted>. I'll wait till it comes out on tv.
