Phuket CCTV shows woman urinating at Karon shop

Featured Replies

A CCTV recording shared by Phuket Times shows an unidentified foreign woman urinating at the entrance of a beachwear shop in Phuket's Karon area.

The footage was posted on the Phuket Times Facebook page, but did not state the exact date or time when the incident occurred.

What the footage shows

In the video, the woman, who was wearing white shorts and top, walks to the shop and stops at its entrance. She then pulls down her shorts, urinates and walks away.

Near the end of the recording, an elderly woman who appeared to look after the store can be seen slowly approaching to check what had happened.

The woman has not been publicly identified. Phuket Times did not report whether the shop owner had made a complaint to police.

Public toilets and possible penalties

Public urination and defecation are offences in Thailand under public cleanliness and public nuisance rules. Fines are generally small, typically amounting to a few thousand baht, and cases are usually handled by municipal officers rather than police.

A Phuket restaurant owner previously complained that a foreign woman had defecated outside his premises, saying she was not the first person to do so. He and several Thai social media users pointed to a shortage of public toilets as a contributing factor, and urged officials to provide more facilities for tourists.

Visitors who cannot find public facilities should be aware that venues, shopping areas and restaurants may have their own toilet arrangements, while public behaviour that causes a nuisance can draw complaints from business owners or local authorities.

Thailand: come for the beaches, food and hospitality…

…and apparently some tourists decide the local attractions include the shop entrance toilet. 😂

Imagine the shopkeeper’s review:
“Great location, friendly staff, but one-star. Bathroom facilities were a little too convenient.”

Some folks seem to have no reservations about where they do their business. We can all get caught short but usually it is older folks. Is there such a shortage of facilities in Karon? Or an excess of tourists with the habits of a soi dog!
