I went in today to open a Bangkok Bank account for the new MasterCard. I show them a passport and work permit. They come back and tell me I need a letter of reference from my company and show me some binder with requirements in Thai.

 

 

Red flag up- They don’t want to deal with me so I call the customer service number. They confirm the requirements and talk to the staff. At this point, I think I am good to go. I get off the phone and they reverse again to the LOR.

 

Finally, I show them on their own website the requirements of only a passport and wp and they still struggle with it but get the process going.

 

At the end, they did apologize and admit I was the first foreigner to get a bank account with them with only a work permit.

 

So, don’t trust their response if you know you are right.

I was once asked to show a work permit when ordering a satellite tv installation, they're complete idiots, I really doubt they know what they're asking for.
