Chiang Mai News reported that Thai vehicle tax can now be renewed without time wasting visits to the Department of Land Transport.

They said that it was good news for the convenience of Thai consumers.

Details can be found at www.dlte-serv.in.th or www.dlt.go.th

Applicants should register their details there and complete the online form.

Then choose "pay tax".

Applicants must be in possession of valid "por ror bor" insurance and had checks for seven year old vehicles.

Counter service payments can be made via participating banks that include Bangkok Bank, Thanachart, TMB, Krung Sri Ayuthaya and Krung Thai.

Credit card payments can be made via Bangkok Bank and Krung Sri Ayuthaya.

Tax discs will be sent within 7 days for a charge of 40 baht.

Chiang Mai News added that soon the service will be expanded to allow motorists to renew three months in advance.

A Thaivisa reporter tried both websites without success.

Let's hope the insurance companies will also cooperate, because now it's a pain in the A.. to get the insurance papers in time.

That takes weeks!

Never had a problem, for both car and motorcycle to get "por ror bor" insurance. Pay at the desk in the DLT, take a ticket number, pay at tax desk, in and out 20 mins max.

You only need government insurance to get tax, that's easy to get. you can then wait for your 1st class in insurance to come in the post.  :jap:

Are you talking about Govt Insurance or the additional 1st class because it's only Govt Insurance required for the Tax 'square' which is easily got in 5 minutes at DLT offices or testing stations.

I just took the motorbike to a recognised inspection shop 10 minutes from where I live. Ask for government insurance and registration paper, cost 800 baht. Pick up the paperwork in 2 days. Why visit the DLT and waste hours?

I've never gone to the DLT.

I go to the insurance office. They do the vehicle checks issue the insurance and apply for the tax document. The tax comes 3 days later and I collect it from the office.

Will the DLT check for unpaid fines, or has that idea been scrapped?

Interesting...

One would think that with more than a 11 million unpaid fines related to bad driving remaining uncollected, the DLT would also implement the requirement to clear all the unpaid fines & penalties prior to the renewal of each years tax disk?

No doubt once the computer nerds at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex have got the database integration between all government departments and ministries sorted out, then this will be on the cards.

Big brother is coming soon :wai:

That is how they try and get the bad Somchai's

My insurance company does it all for 100 Baht. Well worth it to me as a time saver.

Likewise.  Local inspection garage only 5 mins away does it all. Takes all of 10 mins and collect the tax label in aroun 3 or 4 days.

If you have 1st class insurance it probably also includes government insurance.  Your insurance company should give you a document with a 'tear off' slip which you present when renewing your tax and the cost of government tax is taken off.

I am not sure if my 1st class insurance covers the government insurance, will have to check my papers, but thanks for the heads up.

If it does, you should have a sheet of paper with a tear off piece at the bottom. That's the bit the DLT want.

looks like it's only for Thai people ...?? And both sites quoted above don't seem to work

So we can soon pay at 7/11 ?

I also live 10 minutes from the DLT, takes 10 minutes to get the new compulsory  insurance and the tax disc and I don't have wait 2 days and have to  go back .

One other point if you had bought a used car the date that it was first registered by the first owner is the date you must renew the compulsory insurance and tax disc,  I was stopped by the police because the road tax was two months late I had bought the car in November  but the car was registered in September. The blue book has the date when the  car was first registered and that is the date to renew the road tax and compulsory insurance,

What ..... and miss all that fun and chaos at the DLT...

You can pay it at 7/11 since at least three years (including paying for the compulsary insurance).

The news is wrong.

Reminder: For Pattaya no need to go to the (far) DLT for your Road Tax renewal. You can do it on Saturdays at Central Beach Festival. They have a temporary office (was BigC before) on 6th floor.

A good idea however the devil is in the detail.  I've heard 92% of drivers here do not pay traffic fines either!

Its been coming since February 19 2019 but not open yet.

However, www.dlt.go.th does appear to work. I did not proceed to registration.

The LTO seems to be one of the more progressive parts of the Gov't. Way back when one had to go back to where the vehicle was taxed, even if it was the other end of the country. Now all offices are on the same computer system and you can do road tax at any of them. The 'new' driving licences are far better than the old laminated ones as well and far less difficult to forge. When I had an issue (which was quickly resolved) involving Immigration they were able to access the LTO through a smart phone and see that the fault lay with the LTO, not me.

A shame a few people don't transfer to the Immigration Department and modernise their systems.

And exactly how will the make sure the vehicle has been "checked". Not that it matters, first time I did it at DLT the car had a broken exhaust hanging down in the middle and it would barely start. Passed with flying colors.

I  take  my  old  Toyota for the annual test and for 50  baht extra  they get the tax  disc and stick it in, I dont do anything. Just have to go back in 2-3  days and  they have it.
