webfact
"On yer bike!" - Chiang Mai man thought Nigerian Facebook scammer was female US soldier called Mercy! Picture: Daily News Chiang Mai man Kitja Thandee, 54, thought his luck was in when he struck up an online romance with an attractive US servicewoman. "Mercy Francis" had befriended him on Facebook. But after Kitja transferred 35,550 baht to Kasikorn Bank the penny dropped that Mercy may not be all she appeared. She was in fact Nigerian scammer Chikoba Oscar Ikoro who was living in Ranong. Chiang Mai police were informed and they contacted colleagues in the south. Ranong immigration and tourist police led by Pol Col Wirayot Karunyathorn found out that the Nigerian was in cahoots with a Thai man called Tong Phimphak who owned the account and was wanted on a Chantaburi warrant. After an ATM was accessed in Rayong footage resembled Chikoba who was promptly arrested on Sunday. He has been transferred to Chiang Mai for prosecution on fraud charges. No explanation for the bicycle in the picture was given in the Daily News story. We keep hearing how Thai males have a very fragile ego. Perhaps the guy from Chiang Mai was angry when he realised "Mercy Francis" was the local bike. I bet Tong probably was keen for "immediate transfer" (short-time) if the payment was made using online banking, as the "two day option" was seen as long-time, requiring more resources. It was told to get on it's bike, but mounting your same sex/type in public is an offence. Lets hope nobody got framed for any of this unless they were peddling something but a brake was put on the revolving scam before it could go round anymore. They will probably get chained up with no gear to change into. PS; I suppose the "bike" could be used in the exercise yard of the Monkey House"
Bill Miller
Had one trying to scam a lady friend of mine. He claimed to be a US Army General! If you don't know, a field grade officer does NOT seek out Thai romance in on line chat rooms. For that matter of fact as a lowly second looie we were admonished to be circumspect in our romantic escapades. They prey on Thai folks who, let's face it, are simply not very sophisticated, on average, regarding the evils in the wider world.
Kerryd
Has to be fake news ! Not one finger being pointed anywhere ! If there is no finger pointing - then there is no news ! Unless the bike is the victim and is pointing with it's handlebar ?
