Not sure what you want to cancel since your wrote you they gave you your work permit and you had it in you hand when you left the country.

There is a work permit and a extension of stay based upon working that should be canceled when you stop working,

I was recently in a similar situation. Changed jobs, old employer didn’t care, left the WP with me. I just passed it on the the labor office staffer when I submitted paperwork for the new WP. They were a bit surprised that the old employer didn’t cancel it themselves, as they could face a fine.

The work permit is your's not your employer.

I would go to the labour department & talk to them that you have finish with the old employer & will be looking to start with a new employer

You can transfer your work permit talk to your New Employer transfer takes around 14 days if your new Boss has all the paper work ready.  ????

Best if you have a lawyer do this work.

If you are out of Thailand and do not intend to come back to work here again, there's not much to worry I think, it will expire at the specified date.

But in general, cancelling a work permit beofre its expiration requires that you go to the local City Hall with a letter of termination from the employer and of course the WP. When you do this you should be aware that the visa (or extension) will automatically cease to be valid on the same day, so if you don't fly out on the same day or obtain another kind of extension, you will be technically on overstay from the following day.

Although, the IO at the airport won't really know this since nothing gets actually stamped/cancelled in your passport at the City Hall office. Unless the Labor Department and Immigration have started sharing databases recently?

I had a small office that deals in work permits and such cancel it for me it cost me 2000 baht but save me a lot of headache. I have a letter showing that it's been canceled and it was given back to me my work permit. The law office told me that now this can be done via the Internet and that's exactly what happened in my case I have a letter saying that it's been canceled so I am happy that it has been done.

Hi hereforgood,

I'm looking for exactly the kind of company you described that can help me get my old work permit from previous job cancelled as the visa agent I've been using for 2 months already has made little progress (I'm dealing with a vindictive ex-employer who's deliberately trying to keep the work permit from getting cancelled). would you be willing to share (through a pm to me, if that's ok) your contact so that I might hire them to help with mine?  Many thanks for your help.
