Hi all as you may of read very serious of thinking of moving to samui....

Just seeing how much cash you think you need over the year?

I have spent four month's all in all in Samui but it was a holiday so spent cash like it did not matter & no way I could live like that would be good if i could mind :D

I know it all depends on your life style etc.

But a quick run down it is just me who I have to take care a mate is coming as well but is big & uguly enough to look after him self.

Will be looking for my own place just one or two bed room will do,

I think the cost will be around 12600B a month does this sound wright?

My life style well just as long can eat out & go out most night's & would like to go of to other pats of LOS at time's I will be happy.

I just need a rough idea of how much you think you need in to live in Samui a year??any idea's peeps???? :o

800,000 baht should do for a year.

I'd say this would be generous. A friend of mine who lives there full-time spends 500,000 baht. This includes everything, house, bike, bills, eating out most nights and a few beers

I spend about 5,000 baht a day and live a rather simple life. You could live on less, like the 500,000 baht a year mentioned earlier, but you could shave your head and become a monk too.

A simple life on 5.000 a day? Mark you will have us all in tears.

1,000 a day , more than enough if you stay away from the Pooyings in the bars.

Ahhhh...the Pooyings! So that is where all my money is going!

I would cut food out of my budget before I cut out Pooyings.

Good guess... :D

You could rent somewhere like this:

http://www.kalaraco.com/houserent-53.html

or this:

http://www.kalaraco.com/houserent-42.html

For 40,000 a month, pool, wifi, 2 bedrooms, and they'd probably take an offer :o

If you rounded it up to about 1 million, or, about £15,000, €22,000, $29,000 you'd live like a King... :D

Any one thinking of living here and reading this please do not be put off by some of the high budgets being posted. Sure you can rent a big house with a pool, sit in bars every night and go to flash restaraunts. If that is what you want and can afford that lifestyle good for you.

There are plenty of people living a pretty good life on a lot less. Many living here on their UK state pension and having a much better life than their counterparts living in the UK.

There is no reall answer to this question as within reason you can go as high or low as you want.

In my opinion 400,000 Baht a year would be the minimum you would need to still have a good life.

I agree, but does the OP want a "good" lifestyle, a "great" one or just to "exist"...?

What about monthly expenses? Mine this past month up here were the equiv of 15,300 baht for

phone - landline, (2130),

cell phone, (3450)

water, (1440)

gas, (2300)

electric, (2290)

cable TV, (360)

sat TV, (680)

ADSL, (1610)

security - alarm company, (1080).

In the summer it's closer to 12,000. I know it would vary based on the type of residence but let's say for something in the 20,000/month range.

Your various and sundries are way over the top.

You all must shout out the house when you go drinking? Don't tell me you never ring the bell... That's about 1,000 baht right there, depending on the crowd.

I presume the water is trucked in cause I'm only paying 160baht for government water. Whats with the gas? I cook from a bottle which I believe is 300baht to fill which it hasn't been yet, have been here 6 months

I mean seriously, 2300 bath on gas???!!! Hahaha one bottle is 300 bath and last for like mounths. What i dont get is how you manage to cook that much and spend 5000 bath/mounth on phonecalls?? And when do you ever have time to watch tv?? Hahahaha, in the shower??? Here comes a little bit more serious calculation. I live in lakeview bungalow at the moment and my mounthly exp. would be like this:

House rent - 15000 bath

Adsl - 700 bath

samui cable - free(included in rent)

water - free (inkluded in rent)

electric - 1400

cell phone - 300 bath

Gas - not even 100 a mounth

I would say that livingcoast (like above) + 1200 bath a day for the rest (food, beers, etc) would give you a good life. Not go out every day at the bars, eat home sometimes etc. Houserent for yearly contracts (pay a year in advance) is in this place 175000 bath for a house with 1bedroom/1kitchen. Nice place, no lyxury but everything you need. Tv,dvd,aircond,microwave,cocking-unit(gas), a nice swimmingpool, and good neibourhood. e-mail: lakeview.bungalow @yahoo.com

The woman likes to call family & friends in Ukraine and Belarus and the heating is tied into the electric so you can imagine that's used quote a bit in the winter up here.

Are you totally out of your mind?

The OP asked for the cost of living in Samui - and you tell him the cost of living in Estonia... :D

Why not also inform him of the price of coffee in Brazil, price of potatoes in Scotland, beer price in Tokyo and other 'relavant' prices...

For me relavant SAMUI cost of living(per month);

Rent 18000 - 2 Br house with communal pool

Water 150

Electricity 3500 - 3 Aircon's running more then they should...

Landline Phone 150 - Just need it for the ADSL

Cell Phone 1000

ADSL 2500 - 1mbit

Cable TV 2000 - UBC Platinum

Gasolin cost 500 - Honda Dream

Gas 50 - 300 per refill

House Maid 1800 - Twice a week

School 16000 - Too much, but dont have a choice... :o

When all those costs are paid, we easily get by on maximum 1000 per day(3 pax)

Out of my mind? Maybe. But I'm just as interested in the cost of living in Samui as the OP because I plan to move there myself. By listing my monthly expenses where I currently live, several other people (including yourself) listed what those costs would look like on Samui. Now myself and the OP have a clearer picture of what it costs to live there than before.

In another thread I wanted opinions on different areas of Samui to live and got several "it depends" replies. So I described the areas of Tallinn in order to give someone an idea of what kind of detail I was looking for. Well, that didn't work. :D Probably because it would be too much writing? Copy/pasting my expense list and changing the numbers is less time consuming so it worked.

And thanks for your own list because I'm also interested in a 2BR w/ communal pool, ADSL & cable TV. So, moving out anytime soon? :D

...

You never said your costs were not for Samui, knucklehead. What a total dingus!

My fault for giving some on this board too much credit. Beneath my name to the left it says my location is Estonia". I foolishly assumed that all of you would know that it is a member of the EU (as in "European Union") and not some location inside Thailand itself. Second, I wrote "Mine this past month up here were the equiv of 15,300 baht". That means I wasn't paying in Baht but some other currency. All in all, easy enough to figure out on one's own - or so I thought.

And I'm the "knucklehead" and "dingus"? Uh-huh.

To help out some of the more geographically challenged here, I've changed my location to make it more clear.
