PHNOM PENH, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Two top officials of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge were found guilty of genocide by a U.N.-backed court on Friday, almost four decades after the apocalyptic regime which oversaw the "Killing Fields" was overthrown.

The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), said Khmer Rouge "Brother Number Two" Nuon Chea, 92, and former President Khieu Samphan, 87, had been found guilty of crimes against humanity and genocide against the Cham Muslims and the Vietnamese. They were the first Khmer Rouge officials found guilty of genocide and were sentenced to life in prison.

Yes they will all serve at least 3 years and then die. what an F'ing joke ! What about PM Hun Sen he is still in power and still causing crap ! He was a leader in the KR and the world has ignored this. No reason for individuals to play by the rules when mass murderers go unpunished. Even Mr Pol Pot himself dies of OLD AGE in Thailand. <deleted> !

If l was a US President. Hun Sen would get a black opps visit

Over $300 million in legal fees - secured three convictions... Money well spent?

And not a single dollar spent aiding the victims.

I have many close Cambodian friends and adopted family who suffered greatly under the KR and have continued to suffer ever since with the  physical and emotional scars.

There is a huge unmet need for psychological help for the survivors. A shame that instead priority was given to a three ring circus of a trial.

Every Cambodian person who has spoken to me about the KR years including people who were

doing forced labour blames the U.S.A. for the actions of the KR.

Also

However, it is not disputed that the U.S. voted for the Khmer Rouge and the Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea (CGDK), which was dominated by the Khmer Rouge, to retain Cambodia's United Nations (UN) seat until 1982 and 1991, respectively.[1][2][3] Furthermore, an investigation by the United States Department of State acknowledged that U.S. material support for the Khmer Rouge's CGDK partners indirectly benefited the Khmer Rouge.
