Chaturon, red shirts jumping to Thai Raksa Chart

Key figures in the Pheu Thai Party including Chaturon Chaisang and red-shirt leaders will today switch to its offshoot, the new Thai Raksa Chart party, an inside source said yesterday.
 

Joining Chaturon are Virakarn Musikapong, Nattawut Saikua, Korkaew Pikulthong and Weng Tojirakarn, who are said to be ready to apply today for membership in Thai Raksa Chart.

 

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they were leaving Pheu Thai because new election arrangements could leave it with fewer-than-expected seats in the Lower House.

 

If Pheu Thai wins a large number of constituencies in the election currently scheduled for February 24, it might have no seats available for party-list MPs. That is prompting some former Pheu Thai party-list MPs to migrate to other parties in the hope of securing places in Parliament.

 

 

Thai Raksa Chart, seen as a sister party to Pheu Thai, has introduced as members and executives several “heirs” to politicians from the Shinawatra camp.

 

The party yesterday welcomed new members including former golf hero Thongchai Jaidee and former beauty queen Nahathai Lekbumrung.

 

Thongchai, who applied for party membership yesterday, said he wanted to participate in politics and would later discuss his role with its executives.

Not  conventional jumping of ship. You did not comprehend the article. They are moving to a sister political party to ensure that they will be able to get party list  seats that would otherwise be denied.

Sure, understand that, but another analysis is that they don't really care what banner* they are under as long as it's under the same paymaster / payday.

 

* perhaps a more appropriate word should be 'manifesto' but I have strong doubts they would even know or care what that means.

Good luck with that - just be ready to vote yes or no as instructed and keep your mouth shut.

Surely, the idea behind this is to get as many seats as possible for Pheu Thai and its sister parties to form a coalition with like minded parties to stop pro-military parties from forming the next government. Is that a bad thing to do? Not in my books it isn't.

This lot know they'd never be directly elected as individuals and rely on being given a party list seat. Edging their bets to ensure they get their place at the trough if their clan wins.

Yep, sure will be a bad thing if Thaksin and his cronies connive a way to get control, get thieving and get working on his and little sister's amnesties again. The whole outrageous cycle will simply start again.

 

Look at Nat as an example btw. Never elected as a "Red shirt Leader" but mysteriously appointed; never elected to parliament but given a party list seat by the boss. Great example of cronyism.

So would you have it the other way and agree with the gerrymandering and blatant electioneering on the part of the junta and its proxies? What is sauce for the goose...... So surely, PT and even the Dems have the right to do this. Let the votes count and be a reflection of what the people really want. 

 

Can't you accept it if PT legally regains control through the election? Regardless how self-serving their interests are in getting elected, if they win the most seats from the election and can establish a government, why can't you accept that? It is not as if the other side of the divide want to win for purely altruistic reasons.

BB talking about election is so refreshing. Anyway, lots of untruth to be pointed out. Nat is the Secretary General of UDD (not red shirts) and it’s an appointee position. He was a Parliament MP through party list no different from Ahbisit.

Apparently the new Thai Raksa Chart motto will be: "Bangkok will be a sea of fire". It has a certain appeal for the Pheu Thai alumni

More Thaksin cronies, if they get to power in the election... then Thailand will be thrown back to where it was just before the coup with more rampant corruption than ever and more "reforms for the poor" that will only line the pockets of the Shinowatras and their friends!

The ideal way to get out of this vicious cycle would be to not allow anyone who has previously been in office to run again. I don't want to see Chalerm and the rest of that crew again. Surely we have all seen enough of the ineffective Democrats as well, break out the new broom and sweep the lot of them out.

Hadn't thought of that. But would it work? Assuming they don't argue that their constitutional rights have been taken away from them, what is to stop them acting as puppet masters and fielding proxies?
