1970 VW Beetle rebuild

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone please recommend a workshop that can help me with a rebuild of my 1970 VW Beetle. Basically, i'm looking at stripping the paint down to bare metal and the body off the chassis, fix the slight surface welding work that's needed, repaint and reassembly. In addition to that, i'd also like to redo the full interior (upholstery, cushion, headliner etc).

The car is currently in a fairly decent running condition so I know i'm pushing it but if the same workshop can also handle the overhaul of the 1600cc engine, that would be a bonus.

i know there are many workshops doing this across Thailand hence i'm looking for recommendation from anyone who has actually had first hand experience dealing with that particular workshop as there are also a lot of horror stories of delayed works, exorbitant pricing, sloppy workmanship etc. In that same context, i'm also realistic and am not trying to turn my car into a showcar because that surely comes with a premium in terms of pricing. Am keeping my options open to anywhere in Thailand at this point. Thanks

Cheers

There's a place in Bangkok, Pattanakarn Soi 30, that does just that, it's been there for many years.  I can't give a personal recommendation, though.  Many VWs going through that process.  If you go there you can't miss it, it's on the left coming from Pattanakarn Road.

there are lots of Thai facebook pages for aircooled vw's, where people that do restoration work post, some that spring to mind are '67 garage by beerclub', ' somchay garage'

if you say where you are i may be able to help more with some local garages, i have a kombi T2, so  have lots of vw facebook sites which i follow. lots or repairers in bangkok and a few in Chiang mai

Thanks in advance
