NONTHABURI, 29 November 2018 (NNT) - Thailand has won a trade deal for the export of 324,000 tons of rice to the Philippines.

Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) Director-General Adul Chotinisakorn said Thailand has won the auction to export 80,000 tons of 25% white rice to the Philippines' National Food Authority, with shipment scheduled for December 2018.

Meanwhile, two exporters have also won auctions to export another 144,000 tons of the 25% white rice to the Philippines, which are to be shipped in December 2018 and January 2019.

Those deals have accounted for a combined 324,000 tons of rice which will improve the domestic rice prices and generate more incomes to farmers.

From 1 January to 27 November 2018, Thailand has exported 9.89 tons of rice worth 161.38 billion baht, marking a 4.52 percent growth year on year. The DFT is anticipating some 11 million tons of rice for export, given new purchase orders, especially from African countries.
