NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump told the special counsel investigating possible collusion between his campaign and Russia that he was not aware ahead of time of a meeting in June 2016 between campaign officials and Russians, Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said on Wednesday.

Trump's response, in written answers to questions posed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, was first reported by CNN.

"Almost all the answers he gave are consistent with what he said publicly, and publicly he said he did not know about it," Giuliani said.

Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., has said he agreed to the meeting after being promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton, Trump's Democratic opponent in the 2016 election. Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senior campaign aide Paul Manafort also took part in the June 9, 2016, meeting.

A spokesman for Mueller declined to comment.

Trump, who has repeatedly denied any collusion between his campaign and Moscow, has said publicly he had no prior knowledge of the June 2016 meeting.

U.S. intelligence agencies have said Russia interfered in the election with the aim of tipping it towards Trump and away from Clinton. Russia has denied any interference.

Trump just lies and lies and lies.  Well pretty soon, the chickens will be coming home to roost.

[All along, President Trump and his lieutenants were betting that Jonathan Swift was correct when he wrote more than three centuries ago that “falsehood flies, and the truth comes limping after it.”

But after two long years, the truth is finally catching up with Trump and his winged whoppers.]

[In recent days, Trump’s bogus claims about the economy, the Russia inquiry, the judiciary, climate change, the midterms, race and national security have been crumbling, publicly, for all to see.]

The thing is, we've all known that Trump lies and lies constantly.  But with the spineless GOP in control, we were powerless to do anything about it.  That's about to change with the House now firmly under Democrat control.  Justice will be served....and right soon.

Of course he was aware. He is the CEO, so to speak. He is aware of all of the decisions, well in advance. Trump and Guiliani would say or do anything to protect their interests. Remember, Guiliani is the one who famously remarked "truth is not truth". That says all you need to know about this cabal, and their M.O. Trump has made a career out of lying and stealing. The Prez has xero cred.

No need to be concerned. Trump has about 25 months left. Then his political career will be over, he will retire in disgrace, and his business empire will be in tatters. His name is radioactive.

I guess Trump can always say he didn't listen when someone told him. Or he didn't read an email.

He demonstrated often enough all the things he doesn't know.

Of course Trump had no prior knowledge of trap the Democrats were setting for him. Don Jr. almost fell for it though.

A trolling flame post has been removed from this thread.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

I can't decide if President  Trump or Mr. Giuliani has the most forgetful memory.

....."trap".....?

I follow Trump crap pretty closely but this is the first I've heard of that Trump-group meeting being a "trap".

I asked you Mr SAD FACE EMOJI, did you just dream this "trap" thing up? If not, please tell me where you picked this up from. I love learning.

LOL, Mueller already has the phone records of Jr calling daddy before and during the meeting.  Trump was just one floor down in Trump Tower during the meeting, so strutting out his drunk and senile mouthpiece to deny his knowledge just puts him in greater jeopardy because his credibility has been stretched so thin by his lies.

Boon Mee is a certified Trump troll who is best ignored or at the most "rewarded" with a LOL emoji.

Yeah sure, Don Jr. wouldn't give his daddy, who's responsible for Junior's wealth, the heads-up about such an important and seemingly promising meeting for Daddy, esp. considering where they chose to hold the meeting and who had attended.  I am also sure that Junior wanted to let Daddy have a chance to give some input on how to handle the meeting.

Imagine Daddy's shocked, and understandable, response if Junior did not so inform him of such a meeting ahead of time.

Doesn't make any sense.  Junior knows who's running the show in Trumpland.

I know you're a loyal Trump stooge, so this is probably pointless.  But Trump has some major character flaws that just can't be ignored.  Now it doesn't bother me much that Trump is perhaps the stupidest man to ever hold the office.  Any office.  In the words of Trevor Noah, Trump has "superhuman stupidity."  (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trevor-noah-trump-apos-super-080958227.html)

But it's the constant lying.  Practically every word out of that man's mouth is a lie.  Surely, that must bother you a little bit.  If I had a friend that lied that much, he'd no longer be my friend.  But yet, we allow that in a President.  I just don't get you Trump supporters.

Of course 45 had knowledge of the illegal meeting his son arranged with foreign actors.

It seems all but one Trump troll sympathizer have been awkwardly silenced. The truth is slowly and meticulously being revealed as the noose tightens around the pussy-grabber-in-chief's neck.

Good observation. Except for that "one", I see the odd reaction from a couple others now and then but nothing like weeks ago. A few months ago, a couple even sent me a PM to say I could not talk about their president that way. ROTFFL. Fortunately, they've gone into hiding.

"To the best of his recollection..."

It seems strange to me that the trump cabal has arrived at a defense for this meeting, after several attempts to hide it, lie about it and cast it in terms of being about "adoptions", as it was:

fine, dandy, legal

a nothing burger

an attempt to get oppo research

If so, why hide it, and why wouldn't trump just say don jr. told him about it in advance?

Why protest so much if it was all above board?

One does not even need to comment, when satire of this caliber is available. Trevor Noah nails Trump as good as anyone out there.
