Getting ready to extend my permission to stay and now see that my passport will expire in July 2019. I think I have read on TV that immigration will will extend my stay until July 2019 and then with a new passport I will have to extend again. Will someone please confirm. Time is getting a little short to renew my passport now especially since passports are now returned by mail. Thanks.

That is correct - extension will only be until expiration date of passport and a new extension will be required to stay longer.
