Low cost medical checkup for Breast Cancer in Bangkok (Probably in Govt Hospital)

Hi all,

My wife is suffering from best cancer for last one and half years.  Mastectomy at the right breast done at the beginning of the treatment. Bone test showed metastatic in 8th rib.

8 doses of  Chemo and 17 doses of Herceptin completed last week.

Our Dr. from Bangladesh suggested us to do a PET scan from abroad. So we are interested to do a complete checkup to understand the present condition and some consultancy for future course of action. Probably i have to do a Mammography, a PET scan and a liver biopsy.

Can anyone suggest me the estimated cost for the check up and required minimum time to complete the process? I need to keep the cost low and the time is more or less seven days. Which government hospital will be better for me in Bangkok?

Thanks in Advance.

Using a government hospital and getting things done in a short time do not usually go together. Very much the opposite, doing anything in a government hospital always takes a lot longer. There can be a wait of as much as 2 months to get a scan done, for example.

In addition, only a few hospitals have PET scans.

This hospital is probably your best choice among givernment hospitals, it is well equipped and less crowded than most but still I very much doubt you can do all this in 7 days

Scans of all types are much more expensive in Thailand than in Bangladesh or India, India has the bets prices.   PET scan is especially expensive. I think at least 30,000 baht and maybe much more.  Mammogram is nto bad, at the above hospital maybe 2000 baht, Liver biopsy requires admission to hospital for 1 night and may cost at government hospital around 15-20,000 baht including the path report but that is just a guess.

Can you not get these things done in Bangladesh? If not the best choice in terms of price would be India.

Thanks a lot Shelyl. really appreciate your advice.

We can do this in Bangladesh but sometimes we cant rely on those reports here. i went to India i March this year at Tata Memorial and did a PET scan. The result showed two spots/SOL in liver so we did a biopsy there in June. No malignancy found in liver. But the Dr was very confused and told as the biopsy may not be accurate so we should do the PET again after few months.

This time our Bangladeshi Dr suggested us to go somewhere better. So we r thinking of Bangkok.

i can spend 50000/60000 in total. But the time is really hammering us as both of us are working full time. Do u think we can do those things in a private hospital with that amount?

Thanks again.

It will likely run a bit more than that given that the few orivate hospitals with a PET scan are expensive ones. You can do PET scan for that amount but if the results indicate a need for another liver biopsy then total could come to a bit more.

Can you get the PET scan done in Bangladesh and bring it (report and CD) to Thailand? That will save both time and money.
