Yes elections the people of Thailand were waiting for. But the junta tried everything parties could not prepare themselves in a propper way, still the press is controlled and the freedom of speech is not excisting!

so this elections for me are far from free elections. Foreign organisations are not allowed to follow up the elections and transparency is still a bit excisting word in this country. Poor voters!!?!

I think the point here is that in a free and fair election the junta will be wiped out at the ballot box. The junta are not stupid, they know they won't stand a chance. So the are currently trying to obtain an unfair advantage. For instance, whilst Prayuth is in full out campaign mode, other parties up to this day, cannot legally campaign. All of a sudden we see large amounts of cash being handed out by this illegitimate government, remember how those populist policies were a reason to stage the coup ? Now they employ the very same populist policies to remain in power. 

 

There are some other things, such as the article 44 initiated re-mapping of constituencies by the EC, and the unbelieveable fact that it would take a full two months for the results to be announced by the EC. I am guessing other measure will entail, no international oversight, and possibly no exit polls. But for the last two, we have to wait, the rest has already happened. 

 

Free and fair elections, no chance.

That power lays with the EC and their 616 appointed polling inspectors. The EC has legal power to indict irregularities. Is the EC independent? Scary when they can’t even held the political party meeting.

Thank you...that was not immediately clear from following the news as it has been provided. Still seems like a large amount of time to find ways to justify changing results although it is likely the junta thinks they have campaigned enough, with the other parties sitting on the sidelines, that they won't need to alter the results.

Sure, as long as the country is peaceful. That human rights are being violated is not your concern. That Thai people cannot voice their opinion freely and without fear of prosecution is not your concern. 

 

Many of the "keyboard bar stool warriors" and Thai people alike have been asking for this illegitimate government to hand power back to the Thai people, with a free and fair election, a fully elected senate, and no outside control by people that have no mandate.

 

The fact is, what we are getting now is an election, where parties to this day cannot freely campaign, even though those elections are just about 2.5 months away. They did not asked for a fully appointed senate, appointed by the very same criminals currently stealing the country blind. No-one asked for a 20 year roadmap, that future elected goverments have to follow. 

 

But as long as the country remains peaceful right ? At the very least, your post perfectly idicates what you feel about your hosts. I personally believe that no country deserves these kind of guests ….

You make some good points and finish off with a concise and fair evaluation of the junta. That's it, in a nutshell.

I will however take issue with your statement that we are "guests" here. We don't even qualify as guests. I wasn't invited, were you? We're more like party-crashers who have arrived after the party that ended over 20 years ago.

Thailand may be in for another period of turmoil. 

Democratic competition and political pluralism is often a recipe for chaos in countries that don't have a history of such practices.

If am betting if Yingluck's son would be allowed to run, he would trash Prayuth at the ballot box. But Prayuth won't even be running, he is too scared to face the electorate...
