"...The election result, Wissanu said, will be announced within two months of the poll, or by April 25..."   Hmm... The election result will not be announced for 2 months. Double H

  • International experts have been recruited to help with the count.

  • I know this lot are slow, but how can it take even them two months to count the votes and manipulate the result?

So according to the photo it will start just before 4.45.

another foregone conclusion I take it?

Yes elections the people of Thailand were waiting for. But the junta tried everything parties could not prepare themselves in a propper way, still the press is controlled and the freedom of speech is not excisting!

With benefits poor and less educated people the junta try to control for not to say buy votes!!!

so this elections for me are far from free elections. Foreign organisations are not allowed to follow up the elections and transparency is still a bit excisting word in this country. Poor voters!!?!

Not too unlike a fixed fight!

I am guessing there will be no international oversight.

good guess. They don't want international oversight. It is going the way of the last 'referendum"..

Most of the posts on all the threads are farang proclaiming that their "close circle of thai friends" all despise the junta

If that's the case having a head start means nothing. He is so despised they will be wiped out by a landslide

But now posters are saying he has a huge head start and to hard to beat?

Is that like having a bet each way?

I think the point here is that in a free and fair election the junta will be wiped out at the ballot box. The junta are not stupid, they know they won't stand a chance. So the are currently trying to obtain an unfair advantage. For instance, whilst Prayuth is in full out campaign mode, other parties up to this day, cannot legally campaign. All of a sudden we see large amounts of cash being handed out by this illegitimate government, remember how those populist policies were a reason to stage the coup ? Now they employ the very same populist policies to remain in power.

There are some other things, such as the article 44 initiated re-mapping of constituencies by the EC, and the unbelieveable fact that it would take a full two months for the results to be announced by the EC. I am guessing other measure will entail, no international oversight, and possibly no exit polls. But for the last two, we have to wait, the rest has already happened.

Free and fair elections, no chance.

Looooooooooo’l,

the oblivious enslaved will be out in force with their conditioned minds.

Does this mean no alcohol sales on the 17th and 24th? Or just the 24th?

Since I cant vote, and have no interest in Thai politics other than whether they leave me alone and stay friends with Uncle Sam, thats the important question.

The 2 months period is the most crucial period of the election. This period is for receiving of complaints that can lead to red or yellow cards and even investigation of electoral fraud that can dissolve a party. Until the EC officially declared the results, the 24 hours election result is only provisional.

2 months to twist the results into the what the junta desires.

That power lays with the EC and their 616 appointed polling inspectors. The EC has legal power to indict irregularities. Is the EC independent? Scary when they can’t even held the political party meeting.

What are all the keyboard bar stool warriors going to whine and bitch about after the elections. They have been screaming, elections, we have to have elections and now there is going to be elections they are coming up with a million different stories about how they aren't going to be fair, there going to be corrupt, cant be true results. Why are all you fools yelling and screaming about elections in a country where you are nothing more than guests, cant vote, cant own property, have no say in almost anything. The junta hasn't turned out to be the best thing in the world but were needed, no more riots, no more killings, dont have to worry about what colour shirt you are wearing when you go out. Hope the country remains peacefull after the election.

Splendid rhetoric.

A sort of TVF"The Fighting Temaraire being towed to to its last Berth"-Joseph William Mallord Turner you know.

But,then again,Turner's painting is priceless whereas your post is worth about 12 baht-on a very good  day on Wall Street.

Kian Party (Troll Party) led by anti-coup activist Sombat Boonngamanong had not been invited. Sombat was present dressed as a pirate, but was asked to leave the venue on grounds that he had not been on the invitation list and that the party had not been fully registered by the EC.

Seems right, the whole thing is taking on the characteristics of a cruel joke. Does it really take from Feb to April to manipulate numbers and steal the country?

Thank you...that was not immediately clear from following the news as it has been provided. Still seems like a large amount of time to find ways to justify changing results although it is likely the junta thinks they have campaigned enough, with the other parties sitting on the sidelines, that they won't need to alter the results.

Sure, as long as the country is peaceful. That human rights are being violated is not your concern. That Thai people cannot voice their opinion freely and without fear of prosecution is not your concern.

Many of the "keyboard bar stool warriors" and Thai people alike have been asking for this illegitimate government to hand power back to the Thai people, with a free and fair election, a fully elected senate, and no outside control by people that have no mandate.

The fact is, what we are getting now is an election, where parties to this day cannot freely campaign, even though those elections are just about 2.5 months away. They did not asked for a fully appointed senate, appointed by the very same criminals currently stealing the country blind. No-one asked for a 20 year roadmap, that future elected goverments have to follow.

But as long as the country remains peaceful right ? At the very least, your post perfectly idicates what you feel about your hosts. I personally believe that no country deserves these kind of guests ….

You make some good points and finish off with a concise and fair evaluation of the junta. That's it, in a nutshell.

I will however take issue with your statement that we are "guests" here. We don't even qualify as guests. I wasn't invited, were you? We're more like party-crashers who have arrived after the party that ended over 20 years ago.

Thailand may be in for another period of turmoil.

Democratic competition and political pluralism is often a recipe for chaos in countries that don't have a history of such practices.

Tell me again how many military coups there have been since 1932.

I would just like to see the look on Mr imallimportants face when a party forwards Taksin or Yingluck as their PM nomination. !

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeze - that's right up there with "Your check's in the mail!"

5555 no they won't. Unless he rigs the results. Landslides are the department of PTP. Pray tell, if he is so populair, why are they desparetely trying to gain an unfair advantage in plain view ? Seems to me, you are way out of touch with reality. Maybe you spend more time on that bar stool than you care to admit !

If am betting if Yingluck's son would be allowed to run, he would trash Prayuth at the ballot box. But Prayuth won't even be running, he is too scared to face the electorate...

Boggles the mind how someone can be "voted in" when that someone isn't even contesting the elections.

Sounds more like backtracking by you and others. Already given up because you and I know what the result will be when the Thais put it to vote

Strange though you guys were such fighters and now you all have tail between legs already admitting defeat. What a wasted four years of posting.. You will never learn or understand whilst you cling to your western version of democracy for Thailand.
