Anyone done polysomnography?

Featured Replies

Cardiologist having me do a "standard full-night polysomnography" at Chula to see why I experience episodes of atrial fibrillation during sleep. Anyone ever had this done and can share their experience? My test is scheduled for 19:30 to 06:00, but I can never get to sleep before 11pm and normally wake up at 7am, so I'm wondering how I can get a real night's sleep in for the test? Thanks.

I had a sleep test done because of my apnea. I would not worry too much about times, as you might hardly sleep anyway...

- there will be cables all over your body / face and it will be hard to move / turn around in bed, harder even to sleep

- once the cables are fixed, you can't leave the bed anymore and in case you need to pee, you will get a bed bottle...

- it is not your bed / mattress and the light stays on for the camera recording, so sleep is difficult anyway

- bring your own pillows, might help you sleep. I took my long pillow that I need for sleeping on the side

Good luck and happy sleeping...

Thanks for sharing that. But if, as you describe it, it will be very difficult to actually sleep, then how can the test be done properly? Where did you have yours done and what were the hours involved?

Mine was in Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. Hours the same as you, 19:00 cabling for 20 minutes, then in bed watching TV or read until tired. Worst thing was turning around without ripping off the dozens of cables

Then I slept so so between 10pm and 4am, I think the max was 3 hours in one piece which was just about enough for the doc to see what he needed with regards to my apnoe.

5am I called the nurse / technician and told her to take the cables off as I could definitely not sleep anymore. The 30-40 minutes shower and hair wash in order to get the "glue" out of the hair that they use to fix the cables and enable connection

I did it at Bumrungrad and it wasn't that bad. The was well appointed and the bed was nicer than a typical hospital bed. They ran cameras but the lights were turned off.

The unit they hooked you up to had wheels, so you could go to the toilet if you wanted, but you had to call the nurse to help.

The test was over pretty early and you had to be out before 11:00.

Breakfast was pretty mediocre.
