snoop1130
Bangkok gets pollution warning By The Nation Air pollution in Bangkok has been worsening, according to the Pollution Control Department (PCD). The PCD on Thursday reported that air quality in at least two areas of the capital has dropped so much that it will adversely affect health. “People are advised to avoid staying outdoors. If they need to go out, they should wear a face mask,” it announced. The PCD has issued a warning based on the amount of PM2.5 or particulate matters smaller than 2.5 microns. According to the PCD, air quality has also dropped in 17 other areas of Bangkok and it will start affecting health. The PCD added that air pollution would worsen on Friday. DNPBC0
Not very helpful. Face masks should be at least N95 masks and be fitted very closely around nose and mouth, Indoor air pollution can often be as high (or even higher) than outdoor air pollution. Levels of PM2.5 are certainly a very major health risk, but the problem is not far from confined to Bangkok and is occurring in other urban areas eg Sayaburi, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen. observer90210
And with the thousands of cars stuck in trafic jams, it won't help to improve.... perhaps it could be a bit urgent to develop the sky train to cover as many areas as possible, increase their hours of operation, add more trains, by law, have all public buses, tuk tuks, taxis, public mini vans under either GPL or electric, discourage as much as possible the cars from entering into metro Bangkok with new taxes to get a permit to drive into the city and surroundings.....if there is really a will to give clean air, there is always a way...and this is of concern to all...as even the hi-so's/well connected people need to breathe !!...but let's carry on dreaming as nobody really gives a damm....well those who can, will just move away elsewhere ! mommysboy
Heck, I'm due to fly in for a few days. I saw Saphan Kwai broke 300 on the air quality index! That's mental.

edwinchester
I know it's bad when wifey starts to complain about the air quality and it is already bad where we are in Kanchanaburi. Sugarcane burning has started but those who can do something about it don't seem to give a <deleted>.
IAMHERE
Worst smog I've experienced in Jomtien yesterday and today. I'm pretty sure it affects me more now than in the past. Is any of the larger towns in Thailand void of this dirty air ?

It would seem, the government is preoccupied with other priorities these days and in recent years, like arranging for their next submarine or tanks or aircraft purchases. Not to mention the arduous tasks associated with not actually having a free and fair national election.

Aaaaah!!! The good old days of the seventies - it used to be a law that you had to turn off your motor at police boxes and traffic lights when they stopped traffic........but of course, the taxi's would charge you extra to turn on the air conditioning back then as well.
